I second Mr Wignall - Michael Marshall's one of those writers who's not afraid to bend the hell out of the genre and produces some damn fine books.

And while I know I don't have a hope of walking off with a pointy thing (unless I steal it from whoever actually wins it) I do plan to go along and get uproariously drunk and invite people to stroke my sporran. Mmm, furry...

Thanks for the good wishes. I'm chuffed to be shortlisted for the Steel Dagger - particularly in such illustrious company. Now I just have to keep everything crossed for July 5.

I'm rather torn on who I want to win the Duncan Lawrie Dagger. Peter Temple is a mate and a fellow countryman and long overdue for this sort of recognition. Craig Russell is also a mate. And James Lee Burke is one of my favourite crime writers. Can they organise a three way tie????
Congratulations Kevin, and other Crimespace nominees. I'd been meaning to buy a copy of the Maxim Jakubowski anthology, so here's an added incentive :)

Very nice. Congratulations to all, but I'm very happy for Kevin Wignall whom I know and whose writing I admire.

When I opened my inbox today I saw the CWA press release forwarded to me by Ali and an email titled "Congratulations" from Donna. As the CWA is a British thing and I haven't been published in Britain since 2002, I thought there had to be a mistake, unless my last-minute application to do the catering had been successful.
Big congratulations and rounds of applause and huge Magnum bottles of cheap champagne poured all over Crimespace's own James Oswald, JA Konrath, Kevin Wignall, Michael Robotham, and Stuart MacBride (who has one of the schmickest member pages on board). It's also brilliant to see Peter Temple up there. THE BROKEN SHORE is a great book.
