International Mystery Writers’ Festival seeking play and screenplay submissions

There is no entry fee for submissions, but the deadline for entry is November 30, 2007.

[Note - I received this news release at the end of August, sorry for the short time left, and I have no affiliation with this festival other than having put their ad in the Bouchercon program, but it sounds like a great opportunity.]

DISCOVERING NEW MYSTERIES

(Owensboro, KY) The missing clue to the next great mystery play or screenplay could be you; and the rewards for the best clues are prizes totaling more than $20,000! The International Mystery Writers' Festival is searching for the best new works of mystery to present during the festival's multi-staged live performances June 12-22, 2008.

The International Mystery Writers' Festival, Discovering New Mysteries, launched to overwhelming acclaim this past June with participating celebrity authors including Robert Levinson, Sue Grafton, and William Link. Now festival producers are accepting materials for the 2008 competition. Nearly 1,000 entries of plays, screenplays and teleplays rolled in for the festival's first year from both aspiring writers and well-established authors. The one common factor is that submitted works had never been professionally presented before.

Organizers have added even more categories for the 2008 competition. In addition to the returning categories and prizes of Best New Work ($10,000), Most Promising Writer ($5,000), Best Screenplay or TelePlay ($2,500), new category submissions can be short plays, short stories, and works for young adults and children. Each new category carries $1,000 in prize money.

The finalists in each category receive full performances during the festival, which lures about 10,000 audience members from around the world. Audience members then complete ballots that determine the overall festival winners. Each winner receives the prize money and a highly coveted "Angie Award" aptly named for the First Lady of Mystery herself, Angela Lansbury, who is an honorary member of the festival's Executive Committee.

Submissions should be sent to:
"Discovering New Mysteries"
c/o RiverPark Center
101 Daviess Street
Owensboro, KY 42303 USA
