A very specific Texas question for the very widely read

I've been asked to recommend a good book, preferably fiction, by a female Dallas-Fort Worth-area, (Texas) author. The genre is not limited to mystery/suspense. Other books this group has read include White Tiger, Ender's Game, Seducing the Boy's Club, All Quiet on the Western Front, and the Beekeeper's Apprentice. Of course, Deborah Crombie's series comes to mind.

While I realize this is a somewhat narrowly focused question, many of you are extremely well-read. Thanks in advance.

I used to live in Austin as well as Tyler back in the 80's and still visit friends and relatives about every other year. Sandra Brown was raised in Forth Worth and is a TCU graduate. Haven't read her but she's a perennial best-seller.
