I read "Stasiland" a few years ago, but not the other books, so I will have to look them up. Sadly I do not see myself in Germany any time soon but there are a few locations I would like to see. Right now I am reading a few PhD theses dealing with the Stasi and interrogation methods as I am developing a game idea based on the psychology of interrogation, both of the interrogators and the subject, focusing on the experiences of those who were in Hohenschönhausen prison.
I hope you enjoy his work. By the way, if you haven't reda them, for non-fiction background, do try and get a copy of John R Koelhler's "Stasi" (Westview, 1999) and Frederick Taylor's "The Berlin Wall" (don't know the US publisher).
Stefan Heym's 'The Architects' may not be classic crime fiction but as an insight into life on the other side of the Berlin Wall and the intrusion of the state into everyday life, it's unique.
