This whole business boggles the mind and nothing perhaps more so than the fact that Authors' Guild seemed more interested in getting a bit of money (60.00 per book stolen) back to authors than in stopping them cold. Or the fact that some agents (mine among them) actually believed that Google would be a beneficial force in publicizing the book. According to my information, you can stay in the settlement but limit Google's use of your books significantly. I have done so.
Seems like a no-brainer: what they're doing is clearly illegal--and the Author's Guild has no standing to negotiate for anyone who isn't a member and hasn't authorized them to do so.
