Personally I admire any writer who can get published. And it's not nice to put someone down, especially when it reeks of jealousy. But let's face it, some writers you wonder how the hell they got their tripe through to print. So being as cruel and/or honest as you like, who have you read that get highly praised but you personally think is only average at best? Or perhaps just plain shithouse?
Bring me the heads of J.K Rowling, Dan Brown, and that Twilight wench.

Well, for the sake of contributing, I'll say John Grisham. He's a good writer, but he writes the same old story, just changes the names of the characters. I read two of his first thrillers, then folded on the third one by the third chapter, just bored the hell out of me. I was very disappointed and left wondering, "What in hell is so great about this guy?" But I don't fault him for his success. A lot of people like him or he wouldn't be there.

I think in forty years, as I've said here before, he'll be better remembered as a literary than a thriller writer.

We all have authors that we dislike and wonder how they made it. My personal 'how the hell?' authors are China Mieville and after the first few books from each, LK Hamilton and Sherrilyn Kenyon. For those last two I guess the fan base keeps them selling.

Come on, folks, I'm interested in more names and reasons here. Every one of you has read more fiction than I, I'll bet, and I expect a dose of honesty from a very good and inciting question. It's not going to hurt a soul. Just say it, for the sake of honesty, community, and the warm and fuzzy feeling.

Or don't.
