It has been brought to my attention that I'm the only person on the planet who hasn't seen the tv show 'The Wire. Is this true? Are there any more wireless people out there?

I've never seen it. I hear it's supposed to be good, though.

I've seen The Wire--took me a few seasons to get round to it, but once I saw it, I was hooked--however, I'm beginning to think that my husband, my brother-in-law and I may be the only people left who are living a Harry Potter-free existence.

Nope, my family is Harry Potter-free as well.

Yay! I love it. I knew there had to be others. :)

It's similar to Homocide because it was written by the same author, Dave Simmons. The book which both television series are based on was published in 1984 I think, and it was one of the best purchases I ever made - it came in at less than a dollar! Before that I couldn't stand true crime. That book changed my entire view on the format. Shows you what a bit of ballsy journalism can do, as opposed to the schlock sensationalism produced by the likes of Colin Wilson and co.

I never read any HARRY POTTER books either.

No, not a fan of THE WIRE, only watched a coupleof eps when I had HBO, but did not have the urge to watch the series - saw lots of forensic mistakes....

I did love HOMICIDE and THE CORNER more so because of performances by some great actors: Andre Braugher and Kandi Alexander, I'm not much of a fan of street noir in any form.

And speaking of mistakes, THE WIRE made some serious ones when it came to courtroom stuff. But they got so much of the street life and cop stuff down, I figured, "Okay, it's just TV after all."

No one should remain 'Wireless'. I never watched it when it was current but am catching up now with the DVDs. Simultaneously, I've been watching 'Breaking Bad' on the AMC channel (their second season just ended). This show also deals with the drug culture but with a sly, off-kilter, ironic take. It's a great show and what is particularly amusing is to see how the white drug pushers in Breaking Bad exhibit the same slang, mannerisms, and dress as the black drug pushers on The Wire.

Consider me wireless, and very ashamed of being so.

I admit I too am one of the Wire-less. I lost interest in tv for a time. I'm now catching up with CSI - and The Wire is on my list!

I'm saving myself for the DVDs, to watch when I'm retired. By then, they'll be classics.
