I've been away from the site for quite a long time now, though continuing to write. Did a few drafts of a horror screenplay, teaching myself to write in such a mode. It's different. I am continuing to knock around the crime novel I started a few years ago. I can't leave it alone. Have another possible indie film script in the works now. I mention that in this slot since I see low budget self made films as the likely future for anyone who would seriously hope to write a film and see it produced in these times.
For my friends here who may remember me, I have emerged through some hard times. Am now living, somewhat contentedly, with my wife and my Rhodesian Ridgeback, neither of whom ever listen to me. But I love them despite it all. And people ask me why I love noir.
I Am A:
Writer
Books And Authors I Like:
Chandler (who else?), Twain, Parker, Crais, James Lee Burke, John Burdett, Tim Dorsey, Edogawa Rampo, Hammett, Nick Tosches, Lovecraft, and Randy Wayne White.
Movies And TV Shows I Like:
Not a lot of changes since I first listed here. Except 'Beerfest' maybe. But seriously, Folks. Discovered a film, 'Hard Eight' from a few years back. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Consider the two 'Hostel' movies to pretty well be the defining literary/cinematic hallmark of the age we are now enjoying. Would not recommend them for those with delicate sensibilities, as I would not recommend living in the present age for that same group.
The original 'Miami Vice' because it's a satire of itself. Funny, I never watched it when it was first run on tv, but I own the first two seasons on DVD. 'Out Of The Past,' 'Casablanca,' "Godfathers I and II,' (sorry to be obvious and trite, but they were simply among the best films ever made,) 'Goodfellas,' 'Scarface,' and 'I Vitteloni.'
I got your note to my site yesterday (I've been cranking on a book that's in danger of being late) and will respond at some length in a day or two.
But in the meantime, my sympathies on your loss, and I think processing it as art, turning it into something new and woven through a world of your imagination, is a great idea.
Hi Len,
Condolences for your son. 2007 was bad year for me as well, losing several friends and relatives, and even our wonderful cat.
But, thanks for asking me to be your friend, and best for 2008.
You're a hoot as well as a howl! I'm sorry to hear your stripping career is over. I think that the dry cleaners probably got torn down for condos by now too. You'll just have to read another one of my books for entertainment, I guess. Thanks!
Ah, insurance. Since I am in the process of exhanging my full time day job at the bank for more free time and the job at the bookstore, I get to traverse the rocky road of new policies and deductibles. That is the only drawback...I was definitely ready to trade in the numbers and the balances for the world of writing. I'm a bibliophile (love that word), so the bookstore has always been my favorite job and I do get more time to devote to writing. I am sorry to hear about your son's death. Sometimes things just don't make sense.
I can't say I'm a major Dylan fan, although I was around when he had his first hit, and I think his talent as a songwriter is a great one. I'm a blues fan (not knowledgeable, but I do like Buddy Guy and Elmore James), and I also like the music of Dr. John, Alan Toussaint, and Beausoleil...and the rock of the late fifties and sixties...snd the girl groups. I'm in the middle of a mystery set in Portland, hopefully quirky enough to catch someone's interest, and have another in mind for a totally fictional setting...I love police procedurals but seem to do better at writing the quirky stuff. Thanks for the note. Drop by the page anytime :o)
Hi Len. I thought I left a message, not a comment. I'm just using the excuse of Valentine's Day to work my way through my Crimespace friends wishing that all kinds of love may come your way: romance, intimacy, friendship, family, community. :) Liz

Glad to have anyone liking the blues and the Vice on board.
(Don't ever say MV was a satire again)

Greetings to a fellow Godfather and Goodfellas fan! I was wondering if you also liked The Sopranos?
Nice to 'meet' you!
