Mystery writer, non-fiction writer, clinical therapist. I am the President of the Guppies, an Internet chapter of Sisters In Crime.
I Am A:
Reader, Writer
Books And Authors I Like:
My taste varies. My favorite book is Confederacy of Dunces, but I love to read mysteries. I read approx. 5 books a week, so it's hard to delineate my favorites, which change all the time.
Movies And TV Shows I Like:
Unusual Suspects, Clue, scary movies and mysteries. I love Murder She Wrote, Columbo, Veronica Mars (before it got cancelled), those kind of cheesy shows. And the Simpsons!
Ah...all day in the summer, as Bradbury didn't quite write. Well, I figured it wasn't the cabbages (Alaska...perfect for cole slaw and kim chee.) There are several Michelle Martin items in print or publshed over the last several years...do you publish novels? Short fiction? (Barely so, myself, the latter.)
What an interesting setup. A clinical therapist writing mysteries in Anchorage, a land of darkness and light, where some transplants from the mid-latitudes suddenly discover acute seasonal affective disorder. It's not so cute when murders spill from the analyst's couch to the downtown financial district...
But I digress.
I have at least 5 copies of my new book, HONEYMOON FOR THREE, to give away to Crimespace members. Let me know if you are interested. I will need addresses of the winners. My email address is alcook@sprintmail.com.
Six chapter presidents of Sisters in Crime loved my latest mystery novel, Little Gods, with blurbs that ranged from 'must read' through 'page turner' to "literature.' At just over 200 pages it's a breeze.
Did you get to Boucheron this year in Alaska? What are you writing?
There's lots of good crime writers in Alaska or novels that take place in Alaska. Dana Stabenow is here on Crimespace....
My book takes place on the other side of USA - My book, The Beatitudes, is a paranormal thriller set in New Orleans. It will be out in the fall and I am donating all royalties directly to the New Orleans Public Library Foundation. Libraries support the infrastructure of a great city, so I have started The Beatitudes Network to promote awareness of the importance of public libraries in NOLA.
The blogsite www.beatitudesinneworleans.blogspot.com describes the Network, has excerpts from The Beatitudes, recipes, and more. Merci mille fois. Lyn Lejeune.
Writers, please pass the word…..it’s for a good cause….don’t let the libraries of New Orleans or the US go the way of The Great Library of Alexandria. P.S. just posted an excerpt on my page here on crimespace.
Hi Michelle -- thanks for your comment on my page.
Yes, I read about the Guppies when I was reviewing the Sisters in Crime website. Sounds like an interesting group. I've been thinking of joining some new writers' organizations that relate to my current project, so we may run into each other there.
Are you in Anchorage as in ALASKA???? I've traveled there and really loved the area. In fact, I met Sue Henry (she's a former prez of SinC, as I'm sure you know) in Skagway at one of her booksignings.
Michelle, it amazes me that you could look so happy and live where it's so cold - by Key West standards - even in the summer! I guess that's why I live in the tropics. I understand it is beautiful in Alaska, but I would probably be shivering so much my vision would blurrrrr. Keep warm thoughts.
Hey Michelle...My first work Justice is Coming will be out next month. I'd love to hear what you think about it. Seeing you're a therapist, thought you'd find it intriqing. My bad guy is pyschatrist that manipulates everyone around him. Let me know if you'd like a copy sent to you. John. I'd love to have a reason to come to Alaska!
My selfishness Michelle...
If I send you a copy and you like it. Then I set a book signing in Anchorage and I get to see Alaska!
And yeah, you'll hate Dr. Conger, trust me (I'm a lawyer ;>)
Tonight eastern Nebraska is supposed to get slapped with windchills of negative 20 to 30 degrees F. Does that qualify as Alaska weather? Wished I could've attended Bcon in Alaska this year.

First contact.
Have you seen the film Insomnia? If so, as an Alaskan, how Alaskan does the film seem to you?
Best,
