I love crime fiction, have been reading it for years and recently started trying to write a crime novel myself... have so far three 50,000+word drafts (thanks to NaNoWriMo!) & am ploughing through trying to polish & shape them into something I can actually show someone
Agatha Christie
Sue Grafton
Andrew M Greeley
Dashiell Hammett
Val McDermid
Louise Penny
Dorathy L Sayers
Movies And TV Shows I Like:
Gosford Park
Midsomer Murders
Without A Trace
The Bourne movies (all 3)
Oceans (Eleven, Twelve, Thirteen)
Love Actually & 4 Weddings & A Funeral (I know--not relevant here but setting out the 'case' of who's to end up with who arriving at a conclusion in an entertaining manner...)
Hi Linton,
Thanks for your suggestions. I'll definitely try working towards posting something, problem is right now it's still difficult to carve out bits that I feel are okay...
Maybe I'll do more reading on the feedback sites first, just to get a feel of it.
And thanks very much for the offer on peer review sites, I might take you up on that. But again, after I've found my feet.
Wow--you used to live in Taipei? It was--is--an exciting & beautiful place. I'm not sure how much Singapore has changed from the 60's. What do you remember?
I have a friend in Singapore who seems to have found copies of my books in a store there - and one copy in a library. So who knows. Good luck with your own crime novel. Is it set in Singapore? I have yet to set one there, but sooner or later I probably will.
That's great--I'll go look, in bookstores rather than the library, until I either find it or they get frustrated with me asking for it & bring in more copies!
Yes, I'm setting mine in Singapore as it's all I'm familiar with. Hope you do do one set here!
Hi LJ--I just posted a hello on your site--thanks very much for your encouragement & I'll go see if I can find your books here. Reading crime fiction is even more addictive than writing it especially when you're a procrastinator trying to call it 'research'!
thank you, Jean--& good luck with your current novel-in-progress too!
Good to know we have reading tastes in common guess that means I'll probably love your books!
Yes, all that first hand experience and editing has really come in handy. :-) And it's a lot more fun making up crime than getting all the facts straight for journalisitic reporting.
Thank you, Ovidia. I would be interested to know if any of my books are available in Singapore. I've seen them advertised on the Japanese Amazon.com, which amazes me no end. lol
Thank you, Ovidia! I have a book coming out in August titled, Escape on the Wind. It's a Wyoming historical novel featuring members of Butch Cassidy's Wild Bunch. I'll let you know when it's available. :-)

Best wishes with your first novel. It's an accomplishment just to finish a draft.
Writing crime fiction is also addictive.

& I'll try ordering it online--book shops here can be a bit iffy about importing stuff!
