About Me:
Reece Hirsch’s first book, THE INSIDER, was a finalist for the 2011 International Thriller Writers Award for Best First Novel. THE ADVERSARY (Thomas & Mercer) is the first book in a new series of thrillers featuring former DOJ cybercrimes prosecutor Chris Bruen, who hunts down hackers and cybercriminals on behalf of his clients. Both books draw upon Hirsch's experiences as an attorney—although his legal work is a lot less exciting and hazardous than Bruen's. Hirsch is a partner in the San Francisco office of an international law firm, specializing in privacy and data security law. He is also a member of the board of directors of 826 National (www.826National.org). Hirsch lives in the Bay Area with his wife and a small, unruly dog.

Hi Reece, thanks for the response. We have a quite a few favorites in common: Price, Sallis, Lehane, Leonard, Stone . . . And we're both publishing our first books: mine 09, yours 10. Enjoy the ride.
  • Michelle Gagnon

Thank you, Reece! :) I hope we can chat over veggie ravioli at John's Grill very soon ... are you attending the next lunch?

    And FREEFALL sounds really intriguing!!

Reece, now I know what I can do with those black tights . . . Watched Lebowski again the other night. Gets better and better . . .
  • Jack Green

Reece, Love your choice of writers. I stumbled on Horse Latitudes years ago and have been a Ferrigno fan ever since. What can you say about McGuane, you crawl out of an elephant's ass and fight a dual with a pitching machine. I loved Panama. Have you read any of Philip
Kerr's Bernie Gunther novels. Wonderful stuff. Good luck with Freefall.
  • Jack Green

Reece, On Philip Kerr, please start out with 'The March Violets' as part one of his Berlin trilogy. You will fall in love with the PI Bernie Gunther. Until then, the dude abides.
  • Eric Stone

Hi Reece, congrats on the publication. Should be interesting. Where were you a journalist?
  • Eric Stone

I was offered a job as editor of a Hong Kong and Southern China business magazine, and associate editor of Asian Finance - which was regional. It was from '86-'97, the height of the economic boom - and as a business journalist I had amazing access to all sorts of people and places. They also let me write about pretty much anything I wanted to so long as I tossed in an economic analysis along the way. I would think that Business Atlanta must have covered some stories that would lend themselves to scurrilous goings on for a novel.

Glad you dug the article in the tribune. We knew something was coming but had no idea it would be so cool!
Looks like we owe more people drinks....
And don't forget to keep us in the loop on your book!

Hi, Reece. Thanks for the friend invite. Double Whammy is probably my favorite Hiassen as well, though I've never read a Hiassen I didn't like. Even the YAs and the golf book are fun.
  • Stacey A. Purcell

    Thanks for friending me!
Always glad to meet another writer online. Congratulations on your upcoming book, I'll be on the lookout for it. I'm about to finish my first WIP. Will be taking a week long workshop with Donald Maass this September and have to have a polished 50pgs. to send to him by July. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. :)

    Welcome to the space Reece,
My editor was just telling me the other day how he thought financial crime novels are going to be the next hot ticket. He'd just published a debut novelist to rave reviews on a similar topic to yours. So fingers crossed that it works out the same for you!
  • denise marcotte

Glad to meet you. I also like Dennis Lehane and Prime Suspect.

Thanks for friending me. My agent is shopping for a new publisher for my series about a stockbroker, and the work she's showing (#3) is also about insider training. I was actually investigated for same, but was never named as a target. Looking forward to FREEFALL.
  • Adrian Magson

    Hi, Reece,
Thank you for the intro and invite. Glad to hear from you, and well done for the forthcoming FREEFALL. Also pleased to hear you aren't part of the Russian mob or done any of that nasty reprehensible insider stuff. I 'did' the Russian Mafyia in my last book; they're just so right for it, aren't they?
    G'luck. Adrian
  • Adrian Magson

Right. Thanks for that. I'll give it a go. Mind you, I'm getting there. I now know far more words than I did a few weeks ago, although my mother-in-law still isn't sure about how the word motherf***** is a term of endearment.

Early Endorsements for “A Circle of Souls”

Linda Fairstein, NYT Bestselling Author: "A fascinating debut - this novel takes the reader to the darkest places in the human soul, from a writer with the authenticity to lead us there. A stunning thriller and an important read."

Judge Judy Sheindlin, star of the Judge Judy Show: "The seminal work of this fine author kept me glued to my chair until the adventure was over and the mystery solved. A great read!"

    Book Synopsis:

The sleepy town of Newbury, Connecticut, is shocked when a little girl is found brutally murdered. The town s top detective, perplexed by a complete lack of leads, calls in FBI agent Leia Bines, an expert in cases involving children.

Meanwhile, Dr. Peter Gram, a psychiatrist at Newbury s hospital, searches desperately for the cause of seven-year-old Naya Hastings devastating nightmares. Afraid that she might hurt herself in the midst of a torturous episode, Naya s parents have turned to the bright young doctor as their only hope.

The situations confronting Leia and Peter converge when Naya begins drawing chilling images of murder after being bombarded by the disturbing images in her dreams. Amazingly, her sketches are the only clues to the crime that has panicked Newbury residents. Against her better judgment, Leia explores the clues in Naya s crude drawings, only to set off an alarming chain of events.
