In the military, enjoy writing things that seem to cross genres, a bit of speculation, a bit of mystery, a bit of crime.
I Am A:
Reader, Writer
Books And Authors I Like:
William Gibson - All of them
Ian Rankin - as above
Patricia Highsmith - the Ripley stuff and others
Mark Billingham
Mo Hayder
John LeCarre - The early spy stuff
J.G. Ballard
Movies And TV Shows I Like:
Usually any British crime or mystery. Don't like the later US trend away from realism (CSI, NCIS, etc.)
Hi Mark, we like some of the same authors. I am trying to write in the style of Rankin's Rebus series. Do you have any info on Aussie guidelines for including names of restaurants, buildings/resorts/hotel eg Hyatt, Eureka Tower etc. Is there a site that outlines this or a book that has some guidelines. I am fairly new to all this, have about a third of the book written, just don't know if there are any regulations etc. Wish Rankin would write another Rebus book, I am just a creature of habit....
Hi Mark, sorry I was a little unclear, do we have the right to use the names of real restaurants, buildings and resorts within our books, or do we have to seek permission from them. ie Can one of our characters stay at The Hyatt in Sydney or reside in the Eureka Tower penthouse, or eat at Lynches Restaurant St Kilda ??
