About Me:: Reece Hirsch’s first book, THE INSIDER, was a finalist for the 2011 International Thriller Writers Award for Best First Novel. THE ADVERSARY (Thomas & Mercer) is the first book in a new series of thrillers featuring former DOJ cybercrimes prosecutor Chris Bruen, who hunts down hackers and cybercriminals on behalf of his clients. Both books draw upon Hirsch's experiences as an attorney—although his legal work is a lot less exciting and hazardous than Bruen's. Hirsch is a partner in the San Francisco office of an international law firm, specializing in privacy and data security law. He is also a member of the board of directors of 826 National (www.826National.org). Hirsch lives in the Bay Area with his wife and a small, unruly dog.

I'm starting to move away from true-crime. My latest book was a biography and now I'm working on humourous crime fiction. For me, writing is a progression through things that take your interest, and also pushing yourself creatively in different directions.

Thanks for the welcome Reece. Most people ask why I don't write murder mysteries rather than terrorist mysteries. My response is that I've seen too much murder. I encourage my wife to write murder mysteries. I stick with terrorist mysteries. There's more challenge.

Reece - yep, you are right that several thriller writers have parleyed the free audio into book deals. It's a tough road neverthless. The main reason I did it was to see if people were interested in listening to it after agents rejected it. It was a lot of fun also, and I learned quite a bit that has made the second book (nearing readiness for submission) better.

thanks for the invite. I, too, am a lawyer with 30+ years in courtrooms and have a first novel coming out this fall which is a mystery/thriller. I'm anxious to see yours. Also, congrats for getting Berkley/Penguin to publish you. How'd you do it? I'm looking at two local publishers here in Minnesota, both with good reputations but like most opportunities today, I still have to do 90+% of the marketing. Hi Reece, This is such a rich field of new and established authors as well as us readers.
(Couple on my list came up as gobbledygook.. J L Burke and James Ellroy. When I was joining up here, suddenly the blue moon come up perfectly circular in an extraordinary ox-blood colour. It rose up spectacularly from behind the hills of the Welsh coastline in mist-free clear sky for a while. When mists obscured it, carried on typing in the dusk, hit or missing the keyboard. Surreal too, in focussing on a whole train of crime/noir authors and TV shows much loved). Jenna

Hi Reece, yes indeed in the thick of it. It was a great time and sadly our industry hasn't built on that enthusiasm. Editing is of course much different now with digital but to me it is really the time all the elements in a film come together. The editor's role has been reduced in many way, which I think is sad as many director's don't use the skills of an editor to compliment their work.
