I am a suspense author of three novels: Whale Song, The River and Divine Intervention. My novels are set primarily in Canada, in intriguing locations.
One of my goals in writing is to ask gritty questions. You know, the kind that most people don't want to ask. Questions like: 'What would you do if someone you loved was dying a prolonged and painful death? Would you help end their suffering?' Or 'How far do we go with our search for youth and longevity until we've gone too far? How far do we go with our technological advances before we've become God?'
Bottom line: I want my novels to make people think and question things that are controversial. Assisted dying, stem cell research, nanotechnology...letting a madman abduct your son.
One of my other goals is to share what I learn with other authors, especially new ones. Over the years I have organized numerous multi-author events and fundraisers, connecting authors in ways that enable them to promote their works and meet other writers. It's my way of giving back.
While I am considered a mega promoter by my peers, I also have a wicked sense of humor. There is nothing better than meeting someone for the first time and having them ask :So...what do you do, Cheryl?" To which I like to answer: "Uh, well, I kill people off."
Whale Song - "Moving...sweet and sad."--Booklist
The story of a woman haunted by her past and by her mother's tragic assisted suicide. Love, lies, secrets, tragedy and redemption come together in a novel that will change how you view life--and death.
Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Diana Gabaldon, Lisa See, Luanne Rice, Michael Crichton, James Patterson, Kay Hooper...ok...like just about every major best selling author. Plus Illona Haus, Linda Hall, and other awesome Canadian authors.
Movies And TV Shows I Like:
Anything crime related, especially the original CSI and Bones!
Hi Cheryl
I like your premise for writing. You're on my list now.
My stories also ask serious social or political questions. I can't tell a story with stirring something up.
