Currently, I am the editor at Innsmouth Free Press. I publish speculative fiction and non-fiction (I'm a Templar historian). My specfic frequently crosses over into the mystery genre, as with the mystery SF novel I published with cowriter Judith Doloughan, "Fraterfamilias", which has been reissued in print and you can preorder here: http://www.innsmouthfreepress.com/?p=9379. It ships starting December 6.
Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler, Arthur Conan Doyle, B.J. Oliphant, Stephen Saylor, Lindsey Davis, Joseph Wambaugh, James Ellroy.
Movies And TV Shows I Like:
The Big Sleep, The Maltese Falcon, Mildred Pierce, Gilda, The Two Mrs. Carrolls, The Wicker Man, Desolation Sound, Da Vinci's Inquest, Da Vinci's City Hall, Intelligence, The First 48.
re the great South African novel - what can I say, I was young. I think I'll leave that for the JM Coetzees or the Nadine Gordimers or the Zakes Mdas and concentrate on crime writing - way more fun.
Thanks for the invite, Paula. Love the picture of the leopard. Big cats are awesome!!! But don't tell my domestics that I think the big cats are beautiful. :-)
Hi Paula - I've been checking out your website - congratulations on your doctorate last year! You've got an exciting accumulation of past jobs - you must never be at a loss of subjects to talk about -
Thanks for including me in your friends.

Well, don't sweat it. Writing the Great Insert-Your-Country-Here Novel is no guarantee of either quality or originality, when it comes right down to it.
Hi,
I’m looking forward to sharing writing experiences with you.
I have “finished” a mystery novel, still needing some fact checking and editing. My plan is to hire an editor and then put it on a print and demand website such as lulu.com.
Reason: I don’t want the hassle of trying to sell and promote it. Yet don’t want it to land in a drawer, as some kind of hobby product.
Any thoughts? Any suggestions for an editor? Your opinions are welcomed.

I love you list of faves! I wake up groggy every Sunday morning from watching DaVinci's Inquest, which is shown in NYC at 1:30 A.M. (Though I secretly wonder how many corpses really show up every week in Vancouver!
I have at least 5 copies of my new book, HONEYMOON FOR THREE, to give away to Crimespace members. Let me know if you are interested. I will need addresses of the winners. My email address is alcook@sprintmail.com.
The snow leopard is my all-time favorite animal. I almost sacrificed my adult life back in 1989 when, I very nearly joined a group of scientists heading to the Himalayas for a five-year study of them.
You'd be surprised how accurate it is. If anything, they don't show as many murders and suspicious deaths as do occur in the city, especially when you consider that there were only 13 episodes each season and the first half were filmed in the summer and early fall months.
Thanks for the condolences, Camilla. I wish she could have lived to see some of the reviews, but at least she was able to finish some more stuff before she went.
Hi Paula! I just love your photo and seem to find myself coming over to your page just to take a better look at the tiger. How has the summer been going for you? Oh yeah, I am going out to Barnes and Nobles to get your book. Looking forward to read it!
Take care,
Kristine (stop by my page sometime, I love company)
The story of Fraterfamilias sounds fascinating, and so does your background as a Templar historian! We like many of the same authors, and of course, I give your Latin title two *big* thumbs up!
I'm very sorry about your writing partner, Judith. At least she was able to see your joint work published. The fact that you're carrying on what she started is wonderful. Thanks again, and take care!
Wow, you just never know from one minute to the next! I have been published! Three years working on my novel, polishing, revising, reworking, networking... TENACITY! I just wanted to give you the great news!

My advice is to get a copy of The Writer's Market (latest edition) and come up with a list of markets to which you can sub.
Self-publishing is doable, but it's also very, very hard.
