I'm a freelance editor and translator of crime fiction. My passion is anything popular culture, from erotica to fantasy to crime. I love hard-boiled and queer crime. I am with Rotbuch Verlag Berlin which publishes the German edition of Hard Case Crime. My latest translation was a historical novel by debut author Barbara Pope, Cézanne's Quarry.
Current fave crime novels:
Lawrence Block, Grifter's Game (HCC), Oliver Bottini, Mord im Zeichen des Zen, Ken Bruen/ Jason Starr, Bust (HCC), Elisabeth Herrmann, Das Kindermädchen, Stephen L. Carter, New England White, Lionel Shriver, We Need to Talk about Kevin
All-time fave crime author:
CARL HIAASEN
Quote of the Month
There were three cops I talked to. One was a local plainclothesman, a comic relief clown who chewed cut plug. One was from the county District Attorney's office, a ferret with delusions of grandeur. And the third was a State CID, an ice-grey man with no tear ducts.
This is an introductory post starting this blog. I love the idea of CrimeSpace, of having an international, blog-based community to share our thoughts and love for crime fiction. Thus I joined. Having said that, I won't have much time ... you are likely to find here once-in-a-while posts relating to my professional life mostly. And perhaps rants about the German crime scene ;-).
This is what made my life hell put bread on my table since January 1st:
Question for you - I'm researching German mysteries published before 1941. In particular, I'm looking for protagonists who would now be called private investigators.
It's great to have someone of your caliber in CrimeSpace. I had a couple of historical articles published in Germany when Tom Jeier was editor of I-wish-I-could-remember the magazine name. :-)
Welcome Lisa. I was an Army house husband in Germany and taught a fifth grade class of German children in Wertheim in the 80's. It was a great experience. My son is stationed there now and plans on doing as many years there as they'll let him.
Lovely to see a translator join in - I'm very partial to translators without whom I wouldn't be reading anywhere near the range of books that I love :)
Welcome, Lisa. Nice to see you here. My debut thriller, Switch, will be introduced to international publishers by Bantam UK at the London Book Fair in April. Looking forward to it.
