Profile Information

Hometown:
Palo Alto, California
About Me:
I suffer from career ADD. Let me see: I've been a construction worker, historian, Senate staffer, candidate for elective office, full-time gambler (I was a far more successful horseplayer than politician), high tech executive, and entrepreneur. With the publication of Dot Dead: A Silicon Valley Mystery, I've embarked on another career – as an author – where the psychic (if not the monetary) rewards are high. I live in Palo Alto, California, only eight houses from where I grew up, along with my wife and four children.

For Your Consideration on YouTube

A couple of weeks ago, I went down to the Googleplex in Mountain View, California and spoke to employees as part of their Authors@Google program. It was fun chatting with the Google-ites about mysteries, careers, Silicon Valley, and such. (Thanks to Ricky, Ann, Anita, and Curtis for hosting me.) So then, paraphrasing Rod Serling, I submit for your… Continue

Blogito, Ergo Sum

Why do we blog?

Let me tell you why that question has been rolling around the inside of my skull. Tuesday night I went to the Giants game to see Barry Bonds hit a home run or two. A failed mission. But between innings, the scoreboard had a quiz. Who is first baseman Ryan Klesko's… Continue

Which Came First, the Story or the Title?

In a posting on the Inkspot blog a couple of weeks ago, Nina Wright, the charming and witty author of the Whiskey Mattimoe mysteries, wrote: “[C]hoosing a title is generally one of the last details of the book-writing process.” Yes, that’s how it usually works. My Dot Dead had a working title of Maid Dead until just before submission. The contract I…

Palo Alto High's Mystery Alum

Gee, you'd think I'd have a chance to be the most famous mystery writer who ever 290pxpalo_alto_high_school_billboar graduated from my high school. No shot. Never. You see I'm an alum of Palo Alto High as is... Erle Stanley Gardner, the progenitor of…

Was just now searching for blog postings about BEA by mystery authors and found your post on Inkspot. I had bought your book at LCC but hadn't read it yet. For some reason the mention of Jewish book fairs just moved it up on my tbr mountain.

Angie, Howdy yourself. I'm not sure what I have is a resume. I have a list of jobs I haven't been able to hold. Anyway, resumes aren't worth much when you're a writer -- only the words on the page count.

Lori, I got 10-gallon hats. What you have that I don't is a photo of you proving it.

Hey, if Angie can howdy and she don't even got a hat, I can too :)

Hi, Keith. Just doin' the drive-by "howdy" thing. Consider yourself "howdied!"

With a resume like that, you should have plenty to write about!
