About Alex Scarrow

Alex Scarrow
Hometown:
Norwich, UK
About Me:
Author of LAST LIGHT and A THOUSAND SUNS. I'm beavering away on the next, but it can be quite a lonely business, tucked away in my study. So it's nice to be able to chew the cud with people with a passion for books.

If the surname sounds vaguely familiar, my brother is Simon Scarrow, author of the roman series.
I Am A:
Writer
Website:
www.scarrow.co.uk
Books And Authors I Like:
Nevil Shute, Jack Higgins, Alex Garland, Joseph Finder.

In my younger years I was a big fan of scifi by the likes of Philip Jose Farmer, Greg Bear and James Herbert. It's been a long time since I've read much in the way of scifi, but you know what?...I'm drifting back to it again. I'm getting a little tired of the thriller/crime market.
Movies And TV Shows I Like:
Not much of a fan of TV these days. I used to enjoy it a lot, back before we were inundated with dozens and dozens of channels of digital crud. If I watch anything at all these days, it's Newsnight, Questiontime and hmmm...that's it.

Movies, ah...different story. Love movies. If you put a gun to my head and asked me to pick three favourites I'd say: Sophie's Choice, 2001, Children of Men.

But sheeesh...you'd probably get an entirely different answer if you put a gun to my head tomorrow

I could bear only a few minutes of it before turning over....it's just embarressing, cringe-inducing stuff. The bad news is, the crud that gets published by the winning sleb, will encourage new leg... Read More »

What do you think of free book downloads?

Added a post Feb 29

I do think it's the future. And I don't think making freebies available, will cannibalise your sales for the simple reason that no-one's going to read a whole book from a monitor. Nor are they goin... Read More »

Simon and I have always been quite competitive, certainly as kids we were. But oddly...since we've both become authors in different genres, there's a mutual support. Which is nice. I think in a way, writing has brought us much closer.

Aaarghhh....the dreaded rewrites! I'm nearly done with it....but I have to concede, despite being a pain in the ass, it makes for a much better book.

Hey yeah - your last name did sound familiar. I have a son who loves your brother's books. Guess now I will just have to try yours too.

thank you Rick. I'm relatively new to this writing malarky - still trying to find my feet. So any positive feedback I get helps to reassure me I've not made a big bleedin' mistake jacking in my job and winging it as a writer.
