All non-fiction invovles research, and fiction for that matter. Who cares if someone wants to use a title with their name? The only exceptions I have are "Dr." Lauar and "Dr. Phil!

I quite liked the series Asa Larsson developed that included SUN STORM which won Sweden's Best First Crime Novel award. It was then followed by THE BLOOD SPILT and THE BLACK PATH. I thought the writing and character development were excellent. I a...

Sorry, I thought she was referring to Anchee Min's book as a "potboiler" and "nondiscriminating" referred to her book, as well. Perhaps I misunderstood. That would certainly make more sense!

So, you don't like Anchee Min? I think she is brilliant. I've read "Becoming Madame Mao" three times. I heard Anchee Min read from "Wild Ginger" on NPR and it was amazing to hear talk about how teens--young people coming of age during the Cultural...

OH! I love Homicide! My boyfriend and I just finished the series and movie. Today is Det. Sheppard's birthday (according to IMDB) so you can eat a cupcake in her honor. Who was your favorite cop? I loved Bayliss, Kay and Beau, my boyfriend loved Gee and Lewis. He even bought me a copy of the book! Good stuff!

Early Endorsements for “A Circle of Souls”

Linda Fairstein, NYT Bestselling Author: "A fascinating debut - this novel takes the reader to the darkest places in the human soul, from a writer with the authenticity to lead us there. A stunning thriller and an important read."

Judge Judy Sheindlin, star of the Judge Judy Show: "The seminal work of this fine author kept me glued to my chair until the adventure was over and the mystery solved. A great read!"

Book Synopsis:

The sleepy town of Newbury, Connecticut, is shocked when a little girl is found brutally murdered. The town s top detective, perplexed by a complete lack of leads, calls in FBI agent Leia Bines, an expert in cases involving children.

Meanwhile, Dr. Peter Gram, a psychiatrist at Newbury s hospital, searches desperately for the cause of seven-year-old Naya Hastings devastating nightmares. Afraid that she might hurt herself in the midst of a torturous episode, Naya s parents have turned to the bright young doctor as their only hope.

The situations confronting Leia and Peter converge when Naya begins drawing chilling images of murder after being bombarded by the disturbing images in her dreams. Amazingly, her sketches are the only clues to the crime that has panicked Newbury residents. Against her better judgment, Leia explores the clues in Naya s crude drawings, only to set off an alarming chain of events.
In this stunning psychological thriller, innocence gives way to evil, and trust lies forgotten in a web of deceit, fear, and murder.

Thanks for becoming my friend, Margot. Being a mystery author, I looove librarians and I have a soft spot for the profession that helped foster a love of reading--and writing--in me.

Hi Margot
Elmore Leonard and Stephen King are at top of my list too. And thanks for being a librarian. I worked in our small town public library as a high school student — and discovered the amazing world of fiction authors.

Hey Margot: US rights to SWITCH have still to be sold. The final edited manuscript is to be presented to international buyers at the London Book Fair, so keep your fingers crossed ;-)
I was born in Scotland, live in Canada, and the book is set in Portland, Oregon, so, hopefully, a North American deal is just around the corner.

No time to blog, when planning a FESTIVAL OF THE BOOK.

I haven't had time to write anything of late that doesn't have to do with promotion of our library's inaugural FESTIVAL OF THE BOOK, scheduled for Saturday, September 15, 10 am - 5 pm. I hope if you're in the area you'll take the day to attend. Some great mystery writers will be there! Scarlett Dean, Kit Ehrman, JA Konrath, Michael Koryta, and Lisa Lutz.

Research: Detectives

How do you do it?

After spending a week of non-stop writing I am exhausted. By writing, I don't mean the creative kind. Let's make up the crime to top all crimes. Or, damn I didn't have her pegged for the killer untill the very last paragraph.

I wrote a press release for our library's midnight Harry Potter book-release party, complete with all the gut-wrenching treats (that was creative and involved some research) we'd be serving from the Trolley of Treats to what prizes would be awarded to the
