About Me:
I've been writing and publishing short stories, essays and articles (even the occasional poem) for a long time. And while most of my writing is pretty dark, I just recently started writing crime fiction, though I've always read and enjoyed it.

I was awarded a Derringer for Flash Fiction from The Short Mystery Fiction Society in 2011 for "The Unknown Substance," published in A Twist of Noir. My stories have appeared most recently in A Twist of Noir, Crimespree Magazine, Powder Flash Burn, Pulp Metal Magazine and Shotgun Honey. I've taught writing at UC Berkeley for almost 30 years.

My Review of Zoë Ferraris's third Katya Hijazi novel

John Kenyon at Grift Magazine kindly gave me Ferraris's new novel Kingdom of Strangers to review. It's excellent. And regarding an earlier discussion of female crime writers to read--add Ferraris to the list. I've been a big fan since her first novel, Finding Nouf.
