- I am a writer/researcher. At the moment I am writing a reassesment of the Julia Wallace case where I reveal 'Marsden', 'Qualtrough', murderer, Motive, Why Julia was murdered on the night of 20th January and much, much more - A whole new side to the case even Raymond Chandler, Dorothy L Sayers, Jonathan Goodman, Roger Wilkes and James Murphy never saw!!!

- Dear John.I am obsessed by the Wallace case.If you met my friends they would tell you.Most people dabble.They know nothing about it.I went to a talk in St Georges Hall recently by a character called Frank Carlisle. Moron.Publicity seeker,I challenged his statements and found myself hated by his groupies.I patiently explained why he was mistaken.They did not want to know.
Then I ran into Tom Slemen and his mate Keith Andrews.More morons.They think the next door neighbours the Johnstons did it.I tackled Slemen at a meeting.Actually I will digress for a moment.There was a meeting advertised at a club on Church Road Wavertree.It was a winter Sunday night at 7 pm.I got there at 6 and the doors were locked with a hundred outside.It was like Anfield on St Etienne day ! .The interest is huge.Anyway I proved to Slemen and Andrews that their theory was nonsense and they scrapped their book.I would love to meet you John for a general chat about the case,You are not Slemen.You are clearly a scrupulous researcher and you can use the apostrophe ! - John,Ada's married name was Cook.She lived at 150 Muirhead Avenuein 1931.In later life she married a Headmaster who was also manager of St Helens Rugby League team -some say their best ever,since he managed in the golden era of the 60s when he brought the likes of Alex Murphy and Tom Van Vollenhoven to the club.Ada remembers her parents arguing bitterly after the Parrys had gone,the mother pleading with the father not to get involved,the father wanting to help a friend.Clearly the mother won.I found Ada through a friend who knew of my interest,mentioned it to a work colleague and Ada was this colleague's mum.I believed Ada as I interviewed her in 2004 when she was 90 but so lucid and sharp.However I have no corroboration and everyone involved with the incident is now dead.I put the incident in my book but in a clumsy way which I'm not happy with.It's just that a guy who is interested in publishing my book wants the meeting put in !

- I haven't seen the full statement.I suspect I've relied too much on the likes of Murphy and Goodman.I do have a rather unusual statement from an old lady Ada Pritchard who recently died,She seemed to me at the time a bright ,honest ,trustworthy person and she remembers as a little girl Parry's parents coming to her house shortly after the murder and begging her father,a shipowner,to get their son out of the country.Ada and her brother had been ushered out of the room but listened at the door !! Ada had memories of Parry as a rather sinister character.She knew him quite well,How accurate all this is,how much it is false memory I don't know.You mention Murphy.I think he does a good job but everyone who thinks Wallace did it is stuck with the time element and the lack of blood on Wallace.I was in touch with Jimmy Burns forensic pathologist for the North West and he tells me there would undoubtedly have been blood on the murderer.Incidentally he also told me that a keen student of the case is Martin O'Neill now Villa manager who,when he was up in Liverpool with Celtic,abandoned his team so he could go to Wolverton Street !

- No John.I've done no research on Marsden.I tried to do some on Parry and his alibi that he was at Olive Brine's house on the night of the murder - in my book I have him blackmailing her that he would tell her husband, then away at sea, that they were having an affair if she didn't alibi him but,to be honest,I think his alibis both nights,the 19th and 20th are pretty strong,As for Marsden and Young the two others Wallace said would be admitted by Julia,I never followed them up so praise is due to you for doing so.

- Dear John,I feel a little like Charles Darwin when he realised that someone else - ironically a man called Wallace ! - had come up with a theory of Natural selection! I,too,have just finished a book on the case.I have it that Wallace and Parry are in on it ( Remember the meeting witnessed by Lily Hall in Richmond Park at about 8-40 on the night of the murder?) Of course I am fascinated by your book.I know that when Wallace was asked by police to name anybody Julia would let into the house,he said Parry,Marsden and Young.If you have found something on Marsden then I am kicking myself for not following him up ! In any case good luck with the book.Tom Brady
