In any case, the emotional and moral stakes you mention need not rely on extreme and repeated violence any more than a love story needs to rely on repeated sex acts. I don't know who you're arguing with, IJ. I never said they did. You're taking u...

That implies that there is little variety in the genre. No it doesn't. :) It implies what it says--that the central convention of the crime novel aka mystery aka murder mystery is crime/violence/murder, hence the name(s). You can write a mystery ...

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me there are two things: first, I like a mystery. Both as a writer and as a reader, I like to think through a problem, weigh the various possibilities, and try to beat the detective to the right answer (then ...

It depends on their motives, and the motives of the people who were the "minority voices" in question. If said "minority voices" were really just shills for the oil and coal and electric power industries, say, they're a)not really "minority" at al...

It's not troubling if they're right (and they almost certainly are), or if the "skeptics" are really just trying to disrupt the discussion and put the brakes on public policy. You may be right about the WSJ: it's always been a pro-corporate rag.

More Amazon fun:

MATING SEASON's current numbers:

#5 in Kindle Store > Kindle Books > Mystery & Thrillers > Police Procedurals

So the NPR piece ran this morning--

They did a great job, I thought. Here's a link:

It's already driving sales a bit--the paperback of HIGH SEASON sold out on Amazon, and this is particularly nice:

MATING SEASON: #61 in Kindle Store > Kindle Books > Mystery & Thrillers > Police Procedurals

Thanks, Jon, for the suggestion re: your book. I'll look for it. I assume I could order it via Amazon? Yes, since your family hails from Utica -you are probably more closely related to the gang than I am. Thanks for responding. Keep in touch.

Hi JON! Yup, it's Jon Loomis - the Mental Health / Family Therapist from Auburn, NY - proving the addage that "it takes one to know one". I had gotten home in the wee hours of the morning after enjoying a couple "Jack Daniels" and happened upon the site (having signed on in very silly fashion). This site seems VERY interesting. I'd love to read some of your work. Could you recommend something for a first time reader?
