B'con B'dazzled

Jeff Cohen BALTIMORE--Bouchercon isn't ever a single thing. Something this large (1500 people!), this all-encompassing and this desperate to please all of the people all of the time couldn't possibly be. So being here for four dizzying days isn't something...

Dear Abby Wants Your Advice

My brain has been sucked dry by a boring manuscript--I agreed to do a second read for one of my colleagues, because the ms. was getting a lot of interest and sounded interesting--but 150 pages in, I still didn't feel...

The Nutty Town I Live In

The Nutty Town I Live In I live in Ann Arbor, Michigan, which is a University town, and has a reputation somewhat like Berkley for being a bit on the other side of normal. I won’t say it’s an unearned...

Playing the interview game

Sharon Wheeler I have a toleration threshold in minus numbers of authors behaving like arseholes in interviews. Fortunately it doesn't happen too often, but when it does, it leaves a bad taste in the mouth. What tends to make it...

VIEWING THE REVIEWER

Deni Dietz's QUIBBLES & BITSResponding to critics of Carnal Knowledge, Mike Nichols said, "A critic at a movie is a eumuch at a gangbang." Which made me think. . . How many times have we banged our heads against our...

Books And Authors I Like:
I could get in so much trouble here, so note that my clients' books are NOT listed to avoid said trouble. But I do love just about everything mystery. Some of my favorites include all things Elvis Cole by Bob Crais; Les Roberts and Dennis Lehane are also favorites, although I did enjoy Patrick and Angie better than some of the standalones; Myron and most anything by Harlan Coben; and reaching further back, all the Trixie Beldon and Nurse Cherry Ames books that got me started.
Movies And TV Shows I Like:
My favorite TV show is the Westminster Kennel Dog Show, which should tell you something but probably doesn't. I like Law and Order SVU sometimes, but rarely have time for much TV. Movies: The Return of the King and its predecessors; beyond that it really depends on the mood. Probably the most recent movie that sticks in my mind and makes me wish I'd written it was The Sixth Sense. Of course, I couldn't forget all of the Thin Man series and Murder by Death.

Blogging

Here a blog, there a blog, everywhere a blog blog (that's not plagiarism, right?). I'm blog challenged. I was invited to participate in a team blog called There's a Dead Guy in the Living Room with some highly esteemed colleagues. I was too honored to say no and it's only once a week, right?

But now here's Crimespace and another one? I've resisted the empty place on my page as long as I dare. And I'm not sure how to crosspost things yet, so bear with me. My other blog is found at…

Who has time for any of those things these days, Jon? I'm on the phone tracking down radio hosts and tv producers and the ever evasive magazine editors.........what have you been doing?
