Done it. Finally.
So there you go. I've wanted to get it done for the past 21 years. I'd take a guess at months and days, but I don't really think it' necessary. I think 21 years spells out just how long I've been putting this off.
I remember when the desire first took hold. It was back in '86 and I was a wee man of nine years old. Overweight (seriously overweight), socially clumsy and with a taste for thrash metal, I picked up a copy of Elf Quest magazine in my local paper shop. I know, I know, fantasy fiction, the red-headed step child of the literary world. Plenty of folks don't like it. I can't say I still have the same passion that I did all those years ago, but hell, it put me on the path to were I am today, so if want to mock, doing when my back's turned.
Anywho, I took that wee magazine back home and became fully absorbed in this fantastic world of elves, trolls and such. About ten minutes after I closed the pages, I picked up a pen and started writing some cheesey fantasy rip-off that I (imaginatively) called Dwarf Quest (you see what I did there?).
Sorry, I'll cut to the chase. Today, at 17:45 (ish) I hammered that charming and delectable little word on my first draught, you know the one? It's spelled END.
I'm stoked. I really am. I know, I know, the chances of actually getting published and that, but I'm not bothered. It's done, finally. Now maybe I can sleep in tomorrow!
