I read it when it first came out, but don't remember much about it. It was an okay book, right on with the investigation, but not really memorable.

- I'm currently retired from mostly sales and marketing work, though I've done a lot, and will be going back into business. Education in Political Science. I'm a veteran of the Marine Corps before and during the Viet Nam era, which has a profound influence on most of what I write, whether mystery or literary. Am the founder of the short-lived International Crime Study Club of the early '80s, established for the purpose of investigating old and cold cases of murder and missing persons. And like my character, Wray Larrick, I just hate it when such a case goes unsolved in real life. Expect to live way past a hundred, unless somebody runs over me or shoots me first, which is a real possibility.

- 60 Minutes(news, documentaries & investigations), some crime & police series, including Shark, Kojak, Andy Griffith, Crime Story, Seinfeld, Tonight Show, the general run, but not overly so--seen'em all a million times, could write the damn things.

Michael Connelly- Running Out of Reality.
I like Michael Connelly. I read about three of his books and enjoyed them, but lost interest and stopped reading, after seeing the fourth was the same as those first three, which made me wonder if I weren't learning-disabled for not noticing earlier. He's a damn good writer and deserves all the good fortune he's getting. But, like so many other good authors who get to the mountaintop, he's slipping.

'tis the season to sell?
So what is the best time of year to market a book? Fall, when many are closing in for the cold, as well as for the holidays? Spring, the opening of the beach read season? Either? Both? I know publishers tend to favor certain times, but it that only because that's when the new books are released, or because it's when people read most?

- Hi Dan, my husband is one of 12 kids, someone else recently asked me about a Texas connection for the Isbell surname. He doesn't know of one but then just keeping up with his immediate family is no small task :-) I have not read James Lee Burke, but I noticed you mention Sue Grafton as a favorite, I like her too. I'll have to give James Lee a try at some point. I've been working around the clock the last two years and haven't had as much time to read. I started a number of online projects while I was working full time. I recently left the full time job and am trying my hand at working from home full time. Might take me a little bit longer to get to some leisure reading but I'll be sure to add Burke to the list. Thanks for the welcome.

- Hi Dan,
I served in the Air Force 4 years full time and 19 years in Air National Guard.
Served as a Crew Chief on KC135 Refuler. WIsh I could trade all those air miles to "Frequent Flyer Miles"...haha.
Tha pic is a Rotty I had many years ago. His name was Bandit. He had a personality of a 18 year old teenager........always in trouble :-)

What I like about James Lee Burke:
1. The emotional balance his main character has, even in the face of grave situations. A nice reminder for his readers , many who may be carrying their own baggage.
2. The nice geographic transition of his character from the South to the North. Most writers know one region well, rarely does a writer know two. The thought processes are very different. I know after moving to Texas from Wisconsin five years ago.
