Depends. It's a bargain and easy to officially copyright things. The unopened envelope mailed to yourself is not ironclad as it would need to be if you needed to take somebody to court. I'd look at it as a long term step, if you're aiming for the...

You all probably think I'm a pita on this, but seriously, I'm pretty sure GENRE is the overall name of a large division or group of sub-genres, ie 'mystery'--'crime fiction' works equally well. 'Romance' is also a genre. 'Sci-fi' also. What we're ...

Zowie, spotted my double negative in your extremely accurate quote. Sorry about that. Definitely not literary writing.

LOL Dana -- I read it as a comical intentionality. You are most definitely not an idiot.

About Me:
Most current publications: ADIRONDACKS MYSTERIES anthology coming soon! (Oct 1, 2009) Containing my short story "Chanel, 1927." Edited by Dennis Webster of graphic novel fame, published by North Country Books. Some great stories collected here, noir and more noir! "Mountain shadows grow long and deep, as winter arrives in stealth and creep..."

Short story, "Bang," in Linda Fairstein's anthology, WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION (April 2009.)

(January 2009) Stuart M. Kaminsky's anthology celebrating Edgar Allan Poe's 200th birthday: THE RAVEN'S WING; my story, "Rue Morgue Noir," a spoof, featuring E. A. Poe as a screenwriter struggling to succeed in today's world.

Currently Chair of PWA (Private Eye Writers of America) Short Story Committee for the Shamus Award, judging stories published in 2008. Award winners will be announced at the PWA Dinner October 16, 2009 at Bouchercon in Indianapolis.

Sony's Reader contains my story, "Lah Tee Dah" as a free preload for purchasers.

Most recent convention attended: (2008) Bouchercon in Baltimore, where I served on the panel of bloggers from the short fiction blog: CRIMINAL BRIEF.

Primarily a short story writer, although have written in many forms and venues, including a published novel and occasional non-fiction pieces.

Author of the Mrs. Risk short story series. Published a novel using Mrs. Risk's ensemble of characters, called: "THE WITCH AND THE BORSCHT PEARL" (collectable at Amazon.com) As a result of that novel, which features stand-up comedians, I was made a Friar in NYC, which is more fun than you can imagine.

Suspense stories for anthologies, such as "Green Heat," Jeffery Deaver's anthology. Nelson DeMille chose "Green Heat" for Otto Penzler's annual "Best American Mystery Stories of the Year."

Stories appear in anthologies by Stuart Kaminsky, Mary Higgins Clark, Nancy Pickard, Linda Fairstein, North Country Boooks, Michael Bracken, Sony, XBox, and many other places--especially Spanish speaking countries.

Favorable reviews in Publishers Weekly and other top venues.

Currently working on a novel of suspense, also a juvenile book for my grandchildren.

Sometime contributor to the short fiction webblog, CRIMINAL BRIEF. Also co-write non-fiction mystery-related articles with husband, Barry T. Zeman, some of which won awards.

Books And Authors I Like:
James Lee Burke, Eliot Pattison, Hammett, Chandler, Warren Murphy, Molly Cochran, Peter Abrahams, Minette Walters, Lee Child, Reginald Hill, T. Jefferson Parker, Tony Hillerman, Jeffery Deaver, Robert Crais, Elizabeth Peters, Nancy Pickard, Laurie R. King, Stuart M. Kaminsky, Jason Starr, Ken Bruen, Val McDermid, Rex Stout, Arthur Conan Doyle, Daniel Stashower, Charles Todd, P. J. Parrish, Carol O'Connell, Linda Fairstein, Michael Connelly, Sue Grafton, Walter Mosely, Randy Wayne White. I also love comics: Vertigo and Dark Horse imprints; Garth Ennis, Neil Gaimon, ...I could go on endlessly.
Movies And TV Shows I Like:
The Usual Suspects--wish I wrote it! THE DARK KNIGHT was a huge dazzler, far as I'm concerned. I consider it a example of how story-telling skills have evolved in recent years. Fargo; Memento; Pulp Fiction; Station Agent; 24; Crash; Bernard Cornwell's SHARPE series; HBO's Carnival, Sopranos, all the A & E Murder Series; Cohen Brothers movies; the first South Park Movie (I swear it was like a Broadway Show!); Clerks...and then back in another time: Casablanca; Laura; Shot in the Dark; African Queen; Dirty Dozen; Seven Samurai; Long Hot Summer; On the Waterfront; Nick and Nora; those fifties comedies where everybody smoked and drank martinis to the pont of alcoholic poisoning--you get the idea.

Blurbs for THE WITCH AND THE BORSCHT PEARL...

Mark drew this for our graphic novel. I look like a banker. I just hate having my picture taken. Perhaps my facial scar should be featured! I can make a pirate grimace and go, "Arrrgggghhhh!"

I took the kids to see Transformers 2. My 12 year old son was smiling every time Megan Fox was on-screen. Michael Bay must've had 20 minutes of slow-mo Megan running from the robots. I did enjoy the movie. Fun, loud with tubs of snythetic butter and a smidgen of popped corn!

Hey!!! I hear you on the Adirondack Mysteries. World War Z was a terrific zombie book written by Max Brooks. I think he's related to Mel Brooks. Anyhow, a very funny and disturbing book. So you're tackling Sci Fi? Cool. I like trying different genres. I just finished the first draft of the ghost book. I'm finishing the script for Silent Scream. After that, I'm getting back to the JBOD prequel you had suggested. I wish I had more time for writing. Domestic bliss in suburbia in the apple growing area steals most of my minutes.

Happy 4th! I love your photo. It's much better than my constipated photo. What am I looking at? Ants on my picnic basket? The massive pile of rejection slips? Perhaps my pile of lost left socks!

Hi, L.J. Great to meet you, look forward to knowing more. Do people call you LJ, or is that a professional name? Have a daughter named CJ and a freind called EJ, so just curious.

Nikki and Sophie, you're both really nice to send a comment about my 'doodle.' A boost for my day!

Angela,
Thank you for the wonderful advice you left in the forum:-

"Here's a great starter: A doodle that can lead to entire plotlines for novels, shorts, whatever: Create a one sentence premise"

It's a great little trick that I will def put to the test!!
