- I read nothing but crime fiction, and I prefer the hard-boiled police or PI stories best. I also love to read books set in interesting parts of the world, especially when I'm planning to travel - my second passion. I've attended at least 15 mystery conventions, and I've found the mystery community the friendliest anywhere.

- CSI (all three), Without A Trace, Lost, Mad Men, a number of so-called reality shows (Survivor, Amazing Race, and for my softer side, The Bachelor, American Idol, and Dancing With The Stars).
Can't think of a favorite movie, but I see a lot.

I had a very busy summer and early fall, so I've gotten behind in these posts. I'll just summarize the best stuff I've read since July.

My July reading
It was a good month. I caught up with a number of recommended books.
Silence of the Grave by Arnaldur Indridasen: This is the second of the Icelandic author's works to make it to the US. I liked the first, but I thought this one was better. It's one of those books in which a new building project unearths some bones, and the police have to go back in time (in this case, to WWII) to figure out what happened. There is standard issue resolution - the good guys do win and everything. Its how they do, that makes the book a wild adventure rather than a parade of proper procedure.

The pitch is that its a group of vigilantes sent by a conjunct deal between the Mayor's Office with the Police/Sheriff...to find some drug traffickers, set them up for a warranted bust and thwart a manufacturing scheme by the bad guys.
