Question About Arson Investigation

As I get further into the technical research for this latest work in progress, I'm getting a better handle on exactly how an arson investigation is conducted. But I could use some clarification if anybody happens to know. The hero of this WIP is an arson investigator. I know he'll be the one to go through the remains of the structures that burn and take samples for analysis. Am I correct in thinking that he will then send/take those samples to the lab where somebody ELSE will run all the tests t… Continue

Plot Week

Every summer The Discovery Channel puts on Shark Week. Every summer I am subjected to watching all of it because my hubby is addicted to sharks. He finds
them endlessly fascinating. The nut wants to go dive with great whites.
You can tell how excited I am about that prospect. Sometimes I’m glad
we’re too poor to afford an experience like that. In any event, that’s
what comes to mind when I think of theme weeks.

Well I am officially declaring

In the beginning...

...there was a fire from which the hero rescues the heroine. Flash Point is begun. (cheers!) I'm not too far in, as I've only been writing on it for three days and having to research quite a bit to learn about firefighting in general, and I'm about to dive deeper into my arson research. If you care about daily progress you can follow along on my writer's blog here. Anybody know exactly what an EMT would do on site for a 2nd degree burn victim? I… Continue

Help With Crimespace Badge!!

Does anybody know how to make the crimespace badges work on Wordpress, the free one, not the client? I thought I could use a text widget and just paste in the HTML but it isn't working. I'm probably doing something wrong, but am too HTML illiterate to know what! HELP!

Work In Progress

Well, as I've said in my profile, I write romantic suspense. I finished a novel about two weeks ago and so now I'm in research mode on the next while my first draft of House of Cards is with my beta readers. The bad guy for my next book is going to be an arsonist, so I'm researching the psychological profile of serial arsonists, motives for arson, methods, etc. If anybody knows of good sources online or in books, pass them my way!

If you're at all interested in the writing side… Continue

Early Endorsements for “A Circle of Souls”

Linda Fairstein, NYT Bestselling Author: "A fascinating debut - this novel takes the reader to the darkest places in the human soul, from a writer with the authenticity to lead us there. A stunning thriller and an important read."

Judge Judy Sheindlin, star of the Judge Judy Show: "The seminal work of this fine author kept me glued to my chair until the adventure was over and the mystery solved. A great read!"

Book Synopsis:

The sleepy town of Newbury, Connecticut, is shocked when a little girl is found brutally murdered. The town s top detective, perplexed by a complete lack of leads, calls in FBI agent Leia Bines, an expert in cases involving children.

Meanwhile, Dr. Peter Gram, a psychiatrist at Newbury s hospital, searches desperately for the cause of seven-year-old Naya Hastings devastating nightmares. Afraid that she might hurt herself in the midst of a torturous episode, Naya s parents have turned to the bright young doctor as their only hope.

The situations confronting Leia and Peter converge when Naya begins drawing chilling images of murder after being bombarded by the disturbing images in her dreams. Amazingly, her sketches are the only clues to the crime that has panicked Newbury residents. Against her better judgment, Leia explores the clues in Naya s crude drawings, only to set off an alarming chain of events.
In this stunning psychological thriller, innocence gives way to evil, and trust lies forgotten in a web of deceit, fear, and murder.

Hi, Kait,
You still with us here?
When you have time, please have a free read of my P.I. mystery novel, FOUL SHOT, here on my page. It's set at the beach of North Carolina and involves the killing of a famous women's pro athlete.

Hi! one of your photos--of a small house looks so much like a building in my photos--which is the old farmhouse that might have inspired Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights. It's in a place called Top Withins in West YOrkshire. there's a great internet site about it. thought you'd like to know as you write romantic stuff.

Kathleen,
AMEN! I just want to write. Wish I could afford a publicist. Wish I could afford an agent. WISH an agent would take an interest. It seems like you assuredly have be on the best-seller list before one will take a chance on you.
