Well, 2008 ended on a crappy note for me, so I'm happy for the new year and new possibilities it can bring. I will be starting a new job next month, so my writing will be taking a new turn I'm sure.

Presently, I'm still working on my series, THE LINE and the yet to be published miniseries, HYPERSONIC. Also, I've got a couple novels in the works. One is based upon a true murder back in the 1930s. More on what I've got going on soon! :)

Whew! I've been busy! Presently, I'm working on three independent comic book series, some pitches for big companies and my crime novel from late last year. So, LOTS going on! :)

I'm revving up for my first year participating in this event. I'll be writing a mystery (of course)! :)
I usually don't outline my stories too much, but this time I am working on a basic outline to get myself going since this is going to be a challenging month. It definitely can't hurt to have an outline all set and done. Once I start writing on November 1st, I'll post here about how things are going with it.
My baby, THE LINE (my first comic book series that I've been working on since late 2004) has only come together better and better lately it seems. I don't know what it is, but I've felt so inspired with the book and my characters, mainly my lead have really spoken to me about where the story needs to go. Such a great and cool feeling when that happens. Once I get a lot more issues written, I will be actively seeking a new artist for the book, since current artist, Eric Gravel will be leaving…

I don't know what it is, but I've felt so inspired with the book and my characters, mainly my lead have really spoken to me about where the story needs to go. Such a great and cool feeling when that happens. Once I get a lot more issues written, I will be actively seeking a new artist for the book, since current artist, Eric Gravel will be leaving the book once he finishes the current issue. I would like to get another artist on board for a long-term commitment if possible. I'm seeking someone who has a noirish style, as I want the next arc to really hit that at full effect. Hopefully, I can find a new "partner" soon. :)
Ten items or less pleasetag:crimespace.ning.com,2007-10-09:537324:BlogPost:798142007-10-09T02:23:41.000ZShannon Chenowethhttp://crimespace.ning.com/profile/RangerChic
It's after 8pm and I'm in a Wal-Mart store. Generally, I try to avoid the chain since I can't stand so many things about them, but that's beside the point. Anyway, I grab the three or four things I came in to buy and head up front to find a short line to get in. Ha. Short line and Wal-Mart just don't play ball together. There is never such a thing as a short and fast line in a Wal-Mart. At least that has been my experience.

Like I was saying, I was in search of a register to purchase my…

Anyway, I grab the three or four things I came in to buy and head up front to find a short line to get in. Ha. Short line and Wal-Mart just don't play ball together. There is never such a thing as a short and fast line in a Wal-Mart. At least that has been my experience.
Like I was saying, I was in search of a register to purchase my few items. I settle on the "10 Items or Less" line since hey, it can't be that much of a wait, right? I mean, the three people in front of me can only have ten items or less, checking out should be a breeze. Should be, but remember, this IS Wal-Mart we're talking about here, nothing is ever as easy as it appears.
As I look at the woman ahead of the person in front of me, I see a shopping cart full of stuff. You've got to be kidding I thought, this woman can't possibly be in the "Speedy Checkout" lane. So, this is where my nerviness comes out; I decide to inform the woman of the rules of the line. I kindly tell her that the line that she is in is for folks with ten items or less. Surely she has made a mistake and simply needs to find another checkout line to get in. Wrong. She informs me that of course she knows this and that all the items in the cart are not for her, there are two other people that will be buying them with her. Ah, yeah sure, uh huh.
Another woman and a guy then get in line behind me, quickly noticing the lady with the full cart. "You've got to be kidding me," the woman blurts out. I couldn't help but chuckle, telling the woman of my conversation with the lady just before her arrival. She doesn't buy a word of this lady's story either. As the cart lady begins to get rung up, myself, the woman and the guy behind me can't help but shake our heads in disbelief. This lady not only is paying for the items all on one receipt, but she is having trouble finding all of her money. Amazing. The only thing that kept those of us waiting in line sane during this insanity was making jokes about the woman, Wal-Mart and waiting in line in general. Oh, and the guy's sexual orientation.
All I can say is, thank goodness I'm on medication for my anxiety. :)

Missouri Man Faces Prison for Doughnut Thefttag:crimespace.ning.com,2007-10-08:537324:BlogPost:794412007-10-08T19:52:18.000ZShannon Chenowethhttp://crimespace.ning.com/profile/RangerChic

Authorities said Scott A. Masters, 41, slipped the doughnut into his sweat shirt without paying, then pushed away a clerk who tried to stop him as he fled the store.

The push is being treated as minor assault, which transforms a misdemeanor shoplifting charge to a strong-armed robbery with a potential prison term of five to 15 years. Because he has a criminal history, prosecutors say they could seek 30 years.

"Strong-arm robbery? Over a doughnut? That's impossible," Masters told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch from jail. He admitted that he took the pastry but denying touching the employee. "There's no way I would've pushed a woman over a doughnut."

Farmington Police Chief Rick Baker said state law treats the shoplifting and assault as forcibly stealing property. The amount of force and value of the property doesn't matter.

"It's not the doughnut," Baker said. "It's the assault."

Masters said he didn't even get to enjoy his ill-gotten gains: He threw the doughnut away as he fled.

You know, some people are so stupid. I'm sure the guy could have found 52 cents somewhere if he wanted a doughnut that badly. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise for the guy though. I mean now, he won't have to worry about where he's going to get his food since he's in jail.Off-duty Wisconsin Deputy Kills 6 Peopletag:crimespace.ning.com,2007-10-08:537324:BlogPost:791872007-10-08T03:43:23.000ZShannon Chenowethhttp://crimespace.ning.com/profile/RangerChic

It's things like this happening that make me shake my head in utter disbelief. Incidents such as this do nothing to strengthen the publics view of law enforcement officers. It only provokes further doubt and uncertainty.
This young deputy is in the minority however, it's not common (not even sure that's the word I'm looking for here) for a cop to go on a felony rampage like this. Although, if we were to consider the stress and conditions a lot of officers are put under each and everyday, it's not necessarily surprising that one might go out of his mind and do things he wouldn't normally do. It takes a lot of physical, mental and emotional strength to be a cop.

To get back to this current situation, I am interested in finding out more about what drove this young cop to murder. Yes, it was jealousy, but was it solely jealousy that brought him to the brink? Or, was there more to this incident?Greetings crimespace!tag:crimespace.ning.com,2007-10-07:537324:BlogPost:789002007-10-07T00:37:22.000ZShannon Chenowethhttp://crimespace.ning.com/profile/RangerChic
Just a first "bloggy" post to get going... this should be a fun place! I love crime stories and love writing them! Presently, I'm working on a few stories in that genre. THE LINE is my self-published police/crime comic series that I've been working on since late 2004. That's been my primary baby for the last couple years. I've got at least a couple PI/Detective stories in me that I've been working on getting out either in comic format or short story (maybe in a collection of some sort), not…

I'm also working on a casino themed crime piece which will most likely become a book.
Anyway, that's just a brief little look into what I'm up to. I'll try to blog at least a couple times a week here if not more.
