Happy Independence Day

Although Woodrow Wilson said the American Revolution was a beginning, not a consummation, my favorite quote for this holiday is from Erma Bombeck.  She said that you have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness.  You may think you have overeaten, but it… Continue

In Memory of Juanita

July 4 brought the 36th anniversary of the unresolved murder of Juanita Nielsen, the 36 year-old campaigning editor of a Kings Cross (Sydney) newspaper who disappeared without trace and whose remains have never been found.

The date also saw the publication of a book by Barry Ward, a former Sydney journalist who claims to have exposed the plot…

The Devil's Bait

I've been slow to embrace the e-book.

Since 1980, I haven't had a job that hasn't revolved around books--printed books--and publishing and writing and words. I've worked in just about every aspect of those fields, and I'm admittedly biased toward books printed on paper.

But the world is changing fast. Bookstores (including…

Cadaver in my Garden

What you are about to read is a true account of an actual event.  The names haven’t been changed because no one will care.

First, let me start at the beginning, don’t worry it won’t take long.  I moved to the country about five years ago.  It’s lovely with wide-open spaces, room to breathe, tons of trees, and wildlife.  Many times when I…

Good morning to everyone and I hope that your 4th of July holiday weekend is rolling right along. Today on my Facebook I am putting up videos  from one hit wonders of the 80’s; chime in on your favorite and suggest a few while you are there. I will be doing it all weekend as long as I am not picnicking with the family. Back to business: The new Paul D. Brazill series, “Drunk on the Moon”, is gaining some serious attention among authors. Another Cool Review

I've mentioned Dawn Thomas before - we met on the Kindle Korner Yahoo group.  Reading through my novels, Dawn said that she particularly enjoyed The Troubleshooter because she is a long time Washington D.C. resident, and her father was a policeman there in the 1970s.  Because Dawn give my novel a strong recommendation I've posted her comments as this week's featured review on my web site. http://www.ascamacho.com

Around the Globe with JO ANNE ALLEN

On this very hot (but sunny) day in Iowa, I quickly get into my air conditioned transporter, set the controls for Grand Junction, Colorado, to pick up this week's author, Jo Anne Allen. Then we do a short skip over to Vail. I haven't been here in over three decades. Oh, the memories...breaking the car key off in the ignition (Dad and I couldn't lock the door the entire trip); tennis; white water rafting (Dad fell out of the the boat); and a very weird memory of the longest lasting strawberry… Continue

Targets Down Bob Hamer

Is this fact or fiction? That is the rub with this. Bob Hamer was an undercover FBI agent for 25 years before he decided to write his awesome suspense filled novels. I have interviewed Bob a few times on The G-ZONE, my blogtalk radio show, and he flat out says that is the part of the fun of the novel. Can we the reader  figure out what he really did and what he made up to weave the fabric of the novel together? I can’t; I am not smart enough and besides if he did any or most of what is in…

Interview with Three Authors on "Detectives Beyond Borders"

Peter Rozowsky's blog is one of the most popular and most intelligent blogs on the web.  As the name suggests, Peter discusses/reviews crime novels set in countries across the globe.  As the numerous comments he gets show, he attracts some very smart people, as well as some authors.

On this occasion, Peter decided that the past is also a foreign country.  Quite right, I think, and he asks me to answer some questions about writing historical crime novels.  He also asked…
