As you know, Miss Petersen is a fourth degree black and private investigator. I provided the facts of one of her cases to author Stephen Brayton and he published the adventure in a book called Beta. The book can be purchased at various…

Writing a Crime Novel - plotting, researching and writing the crime novel, new talk at CSI Portsmouth by Pauline Rowson

I will be stepping in to take his place in addition to being on the panel event in the afternoon.  I won't be talking about Victorian Crime Fiction though but about writing a crime novel.  My talk will take place in the morning… Continue

Proud to Be a Part of the New Dark Pages Press

Now that spot has a name,…

The Devil's in the Details

Writing a series can be a challenge. When you're writing the second or third book, it can be difficult to keep track of all the details you’ve already written in the first book. As G. Thomas Gill commented on one of my recent posts, Stand Alone vs. Series Novels, “to remember each and every little detail about your character, like what he drinks, the color car she drives, or his detest of Thai food.” That’s true…

Heath Lowrance "That Damned Coyote Hill"

When was the last time you read a kicka$% western? I mean seriously, one that just grabbed you by the collar and smacked you in the face? This is just such a story. I have become a fan of Heath Lowrance very quickly after reading this digital short story. The character he has created is incredible and hopefully this series will continue. Very few authors have his ability to craft such rich content, stylish prose, and evoke such intense emotions in a reader.

Whatever category or genre…

When is a Crime Scene Staged?

There are many reasons why a crime scene has been staged.  The most difficult task is to recognize some of the subtle appearances to indicate that a crime scene has been indeed staged. Fires are an example of a type of potential staged crime scene; it’s usually to cover up a previous crime that had been committed such as…
