Pauline Rowson entertains the audience of Ringwood U3A with tales of crime

On Thursday 19 June I had the pleasure of speaking to members of a very friendly and welcoming U3a at Ringwood. Ringwood is an historic market town in Hampshire (England) located on the River Avon, on the western edge of the New Forest. It’s situated between Southampton and Bournemouth.

Apparently Ringwood had a long history of a thriving hand knitting industry. (I knew I should have taken my knitting). It became famous for its "Ringwood" woollen gloves, which were knitted in…

Pauline Rowson looks ahead to 2014

2014 promises to be another productive and interesting year. I'm not the sort of person to make New Year's Resolutions but I do like to set goals and then measure the achievement of them throughout the year.  This comes as a result of my business background in Marketing and Training where goal setting is important just as long as those goals are realistic and achievable. …

A visit to the Hampshire Police Fingerprint Bureau for crime author Pauline Rowson

Crime authors get to research all sorts of interesting things and last Saturday I spent a fascinating morning at the Fingerprint Bureau at Hampshire Police Support Headquarters at Netley, UK, learning how the fingerprints taken at the scene of crime and of people in police custody are identified. Although I'd researched this before and have had lots of advice from the Fingerprint Team I went there specifically to ask questions that relate to the…

Pauline Rowson explains how she uses time frames in novels when writing the DI Andy Horton crime series

Time frames in novels, and particularly when writing a series, as I do with the DI Andy Horton novels, are a tricky thing. There is ‘real time’ and there is ‘fictional time’.

In ‘real time’ I write two DI Horton novels a year whereas in ‘fictional time’ the current novels are set over a period of sixteen months, which means there are an awful lot of murders in Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight, making it…

Who else writes like? Choosing crime novels to read

It is often difficult to find a new author and one whose novels you think you might enjoy but libraries are a great place for dipping your toe in the water, or rather for letting your fingers do the choosing and there is also a handy little book that can help with that. I came across this when I was appearing at Chichester Library recently with fellow crime…
