Reader's Competition for new crime novel Hunting Pleasure

I have now had my 5th genre published.  I am excited about that. More so by the competition I am running in relation to it.  Sam King the 'author' of my novel is an anagram of masking.  This is in relation to the signature serial killer in the novel.   The novel is inspired by Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, Tam O'Shanter by Robert Burns, Umberto Eco's The Name of the Rose and much more.…

Last day to party

It's simple, hangover-curing literary lagniappe for the final day of the STRIKE PRICE release party. Just questions.

Why does the Raven Mocker appear? Who employs the assassin?

For anyone needing more post-Mardi Gras medicine, here's a line by Robert Earl Keen, Jr. "The road goes on forever and the party never ends."

Who else writes like? Choosing crime novels to read

It is often difficult to find a new author and one whose novels you think you might enjoy but libraries are a great place for dipping your toe in the water, or rather for letting your fingers do the choosing and there is also a handy little book that can help with that. I came across this when I was appearing at Chichester Library recently with fellow crime…

Review - The Holiday Murders, Robert Gott

This title was reviewed for the Newtown Review of Books

This novel of murder and military intelligence in wartime Melbourne is inspired by history.

While The Holiday Murders isn’t, sadly, a new William Powell book, Robert Gott has delivered another masterful crime novel steeped in Australia’s past.

She didn't have an enemy in the world ...

In 1989 Rebecca Schaeffer, co-star of the TV sitcom My Sister Sam, was a twenty-one year old actress on her way up, having recently finished a film directed by Dyan Cannon.

On July 18, 1989, her doorbell rang. Because the apartment complex intercom wasn't working, she went downstairs to see who it was and saw a young man in a yellow shirt outside the door. She didn't know…

Missing in Action

We've been without the internet for several days, which is always traumatic. The good news upon coming back is that I've learned that MACBETH'S NIECE will be published in large print in April. That's a good thing because as a "sweet" romance, it appeals to people who might need a bit of help eyesight-wise. Still, being "isolated" from web friends and colleagues is nerve-wracking. What am I missing, what should I be doing, who's trying to contact me?

I'm currently doing a tiny-tour of… Continue

Trashy People, Trashy Topics But One Helluva Good Movie

I could care less if a faded and jaded country star ever had an affair (while underage or at any time) with a big time baseball player. If a teenage Disney sensation slaps her fans in the face by posing for a trashy cover on a national magazine. It makes no difference to me if flashy actresses and kinky socialites flame out on drugs and booze or if an actor in a respected crime series tanks his career with heroin and a pharmacopia of other substances. Frankly, none of those stories merits any… Continue
