It hasn't been easy watching the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy on television.  Seeing images of wrecked homes and heartbroken people who have lost everything is never pleasant.  But there is one remarkable thing that takes place when these things happen: we all come together, remembering who we are, and what we can do to help.
This month I will be donating $1.00 from every…

My novel on the side, from an editors POV

When I'm not writing, my time is spent editing novels for other writers. I usually only take on 3-4 a month max so I get the time I need in for my own writing. Lately I've read some books for writers that I thought were really hum-drum. And at the same time, I've been editing novels and seeing the same kind of issues novel after novel...and by that, I don't mean to say the writing is bad at all; in fact, I've edited some… Continue

AMAZON REVIEWS UPDATE: Authors CAN have their book titles in signatures on reviews

So much has happened in the past 24 hours. I have been contacted by authors, author organization reps, reporters, book marketers, bloggers and finally, someone from Amazon. Amazon has been bombarded by emails from authors, orgs, marketers etc, and last night I noticed that Amazon in Seattle had checked out my blog posts. ;-)

Today I received an email from a senior member of the Amazon Communities team. He apologized and stated that my reviews had been reinstated.

I began… Continue

Amazon is deleting reviews written by authors who include their book title

Since breaking the news yesterday about my battle with Amazon over reviews (ones I wrote on books I'd read) that they deleted (85 reviews) because I included author of Whale Song in my signature line, I've received emails and phone calls from concerned authors, many who tracked me down via the Internet after reading about me on Twitter, The Write Type or John Kremer's Marketing Tips email. Some authors have already discovered missing reviews; some have gone through the same hassle I… Continue

Oops, I did it...I mass invited every friend on Ning...so off with my head!

Yes, I do know about Crimespace's policy on promoting events through mass emails. And I do apologize to everyone here for my recent message blast. Oops.

It seems that as the creator of Canadian Authors Network, I innocently (and yes, it wasn't intentional) sent an invite to a Canadian event to every friend I have on the Ning network, instead of to the Canadian group only.

So go ahead, handcuff me and lock me up. I have the right to remain… Continue
