What's coming up in May - book news and events - Pauline Rowson

I’ve got some great talks lined up for May, which I am very much looking forward to. May also sees me continuing to write the eleventh in the DI Andy Horton Mystery series, as yet untitled. The first draft is done but there's a great deal more to do yet before it's even half way decent.

May has also seen the publication in the USA of the ninth in the DI Andy Horton series,…

Pauline Rowson meets DI Horton fans at Hartlepool and Whitley Bay Libraries

Pauline Rowson talking at Whitley Bay Library April 2013

My mini tour of the North East of England was delightful and rewarding. Authors spend so much time working alone with only their characters for company that it is always good to get out and meet readers and that is just what I was doing in Hartlepool and…

Faith and a Box Full of Clock Parts

Thrilled to see my guest essay on writers keeping the faith despite self-doubt on Psychology Today! Here's an excerpt:

"I’m ten years old. My Big Ben-style alarm clock has stopped working. Maybe I wound it too tightly, maybe it’s just worn out. Whatever the reason, the alarm hasn’t gone off in days.

I know I can fix it, if only I can get a look inside. When I tell my …

Green Pen Writers' Conference, Frankenmuth, MI

So it's almost April (with its shoures soote) and I'm looking forward to the active part of the year. All winter I focused on writing, managing to finish Book #3 of the Simon & Elizabeth series and Book #2 of the Dead Detective series. I'm at work on Book #3, but author appearances are starting to emerge. There were two in March, and from there on, the calendar starts to look like a dartboard, with towns and times scribbled all over the place.

The interesting date this month…

Harrogate Crime Festival Roundup

(Cross-posted from Imaginary Friends blog)

This year was the first time I attended the Theakston’s Old Peculier Crime Writing Conference at Harrogate (so called because it’s named after the beer brewed by the sponsoring brewery), and a last-minute decision to attend meant I got a day pass for the Saturday, even though the conference ran from Thursday to Sunday.…

LAS VEGAS WRITERS CONFERENCE IS COMING SOON!

LINK: http://exm.nr/2011conf-lv

Once again the time is drawing near for the Las Vegas Writers Conference. Unfortunately I won’t be able to attend this year, but that doesn’t stop me from singing its praises and telling everyone about it.

I still credit the first one I attended in 2005 as a career changer. Check out today's EXAMINER SPOTLIGHT. I talk about the conference and what I've gained personally from previous ones.…

Agatha's 120th birthday!

Love is Murder and the Schaumburg Township Library will host "The Body in the Library," (named for one of the grand dame's novels) a free "mini-con" in observance of Agatha Christie's birthday on Sept. 15 from 6:30 to 8:30pm.

The featured event will be a panel discussion on the writing process as it pertains to women balancing housekeeping, raising a family and often a full- or part-time job with writing, as compared the relatively few stay-at-home dad authors, with Chicagoland-based… Continue

A very successful event

The Women Into Business conference went really well. Seventy women turned up across all age ranges some who were already running businesses and others who were about to start, or were thinking of running their own business. It was a very inspiring morning with speakers including yours truly. I was delighted to talk to so many of the women there and pass on any tips and advice about marketing and building a business. And I was thrilled that so many… Continue

Delivering an inspiring speech

I'm preparing for a talk I am giving tomorrow at a Women Into Business conference in the UK. I am the keynote speaker so I need to make sure that I kick-start the conference on the right note. There are going to be ninety women there and all keen to start, or who are thinking about starting, their own business. Of course there are people around who think that now is not a good time to be doing so, but I started my own marketing and training company in the UK in 1992 three days before Black… Continue

Pen to Press Writing Retreat

June 5

I managed to pose with the lucky face of Hannibal at Mardi Gras World in New Orleans, though I am not sure which of us look most deranged. For the record, I'm not all that fond of liver.

The city experience was bizarre--from the Disneyland quality of the French Quarter to the psychotic bums on the ferry landings, it definitely was rich and ripe and crowded. I don't know how Bourbon Street looked before the hurricanes, but I felt like taking a hot shower after walking… Continue
