Oh man, I hope my writing is as good as this cover

Trestle Press green-lit this cover this morning. It's for the first standalone in the Maynard Soloman short story series (the crusty ol' bastard's first appearance being in "Who Whacked the Blogger?")

This one is called, "Maynard Soloman Solves The War on Drugs." It's a lofty claim, but the cantankerous codger wouldn't say it if it weren't sort of true.

Sometimes real life is as strange as fiction

Today is the debut of my new blog: Cats, Canines and Crimes.

I am new to blogging so it might take me a couple months to really get the hang of it. My plan is to update my blog once or twice a week with posts related to critters and crimes. Yeah, I know. They don't seem like two go together. But they do, at least they do in my work in progress. My protagonist is a fledgling Internet reporter and an animal shelter volunteer.

Whitfield Cover Award

As most of you know, I interview writers on my blog at www.susanwhitfield.blogspot.com. I have being doing this since 2009 and have had some great interviews and showcased some awesome book covers. I decided it was time to have a contest to pick the best cover posted so far. Because there were so many excellent covers, I narrowed the field and posted my favorites on the site. Now, if you will, please help me pick a winner who will get a…

"Cleansing Eden" Gets New Clothes

The possible new cover of "Cleansing Eden" just switched to being the actual cover. I like the new one, especially since I picked out the cover image. A graphic designer handled the rest.

It's not that the other version was bad. Shadow Line Press did a good job coming up with something that represented the struggle of the main character. He's got a drug problem and it's not…

FRESH FROZEN, Darden North's third novel, receives additional national recognition.

Today is Mother's Day and my children's mother is enjoying her coffee in bed before we get ready to go to church. I took my own mother out to lunch yesterday, and we had a very nice visit. As sort of an early Father's Day present for me, however, my third novel, FRESH FROZEN, has just received two additional national book awards, and I am thankful: Winner, Best Cover Design and Finalist, Regional Fiction in the 2009 National Indie Excellence Awards.

Cover Art for To Hell in a Handbasket

Yesterday I received the cover art for my May, 2009 release, TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET. It's gorgeous and just what I envisioned when I sent directions to the art department. In the first scene of the book, there's an accident on a Breckenridge, CO ski slope, and Claire has to position her skis in an X on the slope to show the ski patrol where the victim is. The colors are breathtaking and give you a chill. I love how the artist "tied" it in with the gift bow theme of the first book, A REAL… Continue
