DON’T TAKE YOUR GUNS TO TOWN
South Boston, MA:
Guys that look like me don’t do well in prison.
They just don’t, it’s proven fact. If you’re just an average guy who’s not quite white trash but who’s not exactly white c…

As many of you may know, when promoting a book, there is no instant feedback. Usually we're promoting a book that we:
- wrote years ago
- sold a while ago
- edited a few months ago
- forgot about once it was turned in for final line edits
- and now have to revisit to promote it
The entire time we're promoting it, we don't know if the promotion is effective because we won't get a royalty check for a few months, so it's hard to determine if the ty…

I hope my friends won't mind me asking to support my nomination by casting a vote for the book at

In response to a request from Shawn Michel de Montaigne I'm posting a short extract from my current critically acclaimed novel, 'A Study in Red - The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper'
What follows is the introduction and first chapter of the book. I'll be happy to post a further short extract at a later date, but for now, I hope this may whet a few appetites.
INTRODUCTION

Soon after the release of my novel 'A Study in Red - The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper', I was approached by the editor of the Journal of 'The Whitechapel Society 1888' and asked to write an article for their June issue, telling of the genesis of the book. The society, based in London, studies not only the crimes of Jack the Ripper, but the history of Victorian and Edwardian London in general. I felt privileged to be asked to contribute to the journal of this prestigious society, and the art…

My latest book,
Autographs, Abductions, and A-List Authors, is out just in time for the conference season. It kicks off my "Fatal Writers' Conferences" series -- the heroine is an up-and-coming author who goes to a writing conference and WHAM, a best-selling author dies while autographing a book for the heroine.
I had a lot of fun writing this and having the heroine (and other characters) express opinions about agents, editors, publishing, and publishing houses. And to be honest, that's…
