Optimistic and excited

I’ve been wrestling with the plot of my next Inspector Horton Marine Mystery crime novel over the last few days – hence the silence on my blog, and the silence around the house. I get so absorbed in it, that I find it hard to think of anything else. I’m just over two thirds of the way through writing the first draft and I’ve got to that stage where I need to know exactly where I’m going and with whom. You’d think I would have it all worked out by now, having written nearly seventy thousand… Continue

Alrighty then, your book has been published--Great! Now the hard work really starts, you need to know it's up to you to promote it. I know some of you are working with a large publishing house and think your covered. Well take off your rose colored glasses. Yes, the big houses will do some promo work, but it's not like it use to be, with budget and staff cuts all around, you can't sit back and hope magic happens. Winged with Death, my latest novel goes home tomorrow (Friday) 14th May; well almost. To Donigan Merritt's blog in Buenos Aires.
Donigan is a novelist and is living in Buenos Aires. He was in Montevideo a week or so ago and knows the terrain.
He has a review of the book and wants to talk about it.

Radio Phone-In and Ferry Crossing

My radio phone in interview with Alex Dyke on Wight FM on 16 April was lots of fun. It was great to talk to people via a phone-in and to answer questions they’d e mailed in regarding my novels and how I write. I'd love to do more radio phone-ins so hope I can link in with other radio stations on this soon.

I was also delighted to find that the Captain sailing the Wightlink ferry from Portsmouth to Fishbourne, on my way over to the Isle of Wight… Continue

Criminal Help!!!

Hello,

I self published my first book on lulu.com. I want to know if any of you can help me bring this book to a broader audience. The book is awesome and it is a definite page turner.

I'm a lawyer with the dubious distinction of having gone to jail, served time and experiencing life as an inmate. I'm building my life again and any help will be so appreciated.

Review: the new Mankell - no mystery

Italian Shoes by Henning Mankell

US: New Press. April 1, 2009. Isbn: 1595584366

In his 26th novel, Sweden’s top crime writer has eschewed the genre that has seen him sell 30 million books. Even so, fans of his Inspector Wallander novels will find much of what they love about the Skåne detective in the narrator of “Italian Shoes”—only given… Continue

I've started and can't wait to finish

I've just started working on the new Inspector Andy Horton marine mystery; the sixth in the series. At first it all seems rather messy, lots of ideas and threads and none of them joined up enough to make a worthwhile plot, until yesterday that was.

I do all my plot outlines and characters in pencil before starting the creative writing process but this time something was urging me to start typing on to screen and get on with the creative writing process right away. Perhaps it was… Continue

Afraid by Jack kilborn

This is a debut Horror novel by Jack Kilborn. This is a gripping novel. I found it hard to put down once I started it. There are turns and twists, unexpected happenings, and relationships with very believable characters.

This book has everything from Red-Ops, a small town setting, and a hunt for a person. Does the person hunted for even exist? Are they in hiding? Where are they, will the townspeople tell where they can be found? What will happen if, or when the hunted lives, and… Continue

Cell phone stories writing new chapter in print publishing

http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/02/25/japan.mobilenovels/

From the article:

"A struggling Japanese publishing industry was quick to take notice of the growing popularity of keitai shosetsu, especially early works like Yoshi's "Deep Love." Many of the popular cell phone novels have since been turned into paperbacks, and bookstores across Japan now have entire sections devoted to the digital-age literary… Continue
