Self-Publishing: Promoting Yourself - Part Two

As you prepare for your book to come out, a great thing you can do in advance is to get together a press release, and there are a few sites that will send them out for you for FREE.

The only downside I had with the ones I have sent out is that I wanted to put my contact info as misspoirotatymail.com instead of using the @ sign. Why does this matter? Once that release goes out a bunch of spammers will flood your inbox with a bunch of stuff you don't want or need. Fortunately, they…

HAVE THEM EATING OUT OF YOUR HANDOUTS

One of the complaints I often hear from authors is that they can't seem to get their signings and book info into the pubic eye through the local newspapers. I don't have that problem and I have taught several organizations in my area a few ideas on how this is accomplished.

THE DEAD DETECTIVE AGENCY

People often ask authors where their ideas come from. I speak not for others, but as for me--not a clue most of the time.

THE DEAD DETECTIVE AGENCY, my January release, seems to have stemmed from a conversation I had with my son, a Merrill Lynch VP. He mentioned that he had fired one of their employees for selling away. I asked what that was, and he explained. It took root somewhere in my head, and the idea for a mystery formed.

Where the dead part came from, I could not tell…

Released!

Today -- July 18th -- is the official release day of my debut book, NOX DORMIENDA. Still feels unreal to me ... and a little like a deep-sea diver with the bends. :) Physical copies still won't be available for about a week, but this is a rite of passage, a marking of time and a culmination of a lot of teamwork.

I'm celebrating by writing, but I wanted to thank Crimespace for being the first and one of the best places to meet people. I've made friends here I plan to have for a… Continue
