Pauline Rowson entertains the audience of Ringwood U3A with tales of crime

On Thursday 19 June I had the pleasure of speaking to members of a very friendly and welcoming U3a at Ringwood. Ringwood is an historic market town in Hampshire (England) located on the River Avon, on the western edge of the New Forest. It’s situated between Southampton and Bournemouth.

Apparently Ringwood had a long history of a thriving hand knitting industry. (I knew I should have taken my knitting). It became famous for its "Ringwood" woollen gloves, which were knitted in…

Pauline Rowson looks ahead to 2014

2014 promises to be another productive and interesting year. I'm not the sort of person to make New Year's Resolutions but I do like to set goals and then measure the achievement of them throughout the year.  This comes as a result of my business background in Marketing and Training where goal setting is important just as long as those goals are realistic and achievable. …

I’ve got some great talks lined up for May, which I am very much looking forward to. May also sees me continuing to write the eleventh in the DI Andy Horton Mystery series, as yet untitled. The first draft is done but there's a great deal more to do yet before it's even half way decent.

May has also seen the publication in the USA of the ninth in the DI Andy Horton series,…

Pauline Rowson meets DI Horton fans at Hartlepool and Whitley Bay Libraries

Pauline Rowson talking at Whitley Bay Library April 2013

My mini tour of the North East of England was delightful and rewarding. Authors spend so much time working alone with only their characters for company that it is always good to get out and meet readers and that is just what I was doing in Hartlepool and…

A busy year beckons for crime author, Pauline Rowson

It’s customary at this time of the year to look ahead to the coming year and while none of us can predict what 2013 will bring and how it will shake out I’ve taken the opportunity to highlight some of the things that are planned.

First up I’m looking forward to the publication of the…

Two successful talks in the North East of England about the DI Horton Marine Mystery Crime Novels & how I write

I'm back from a very successful mini tour of the North East of England where I was invited to give two talks.

This is the third time in three years that I have given talks to readers in the North East of England and I shall once again be in the area in April 2013 taking part in CSI Gateshead at Gateshead Library, a mini version of CSI Portsmouth, which I help to organise every year as part of Portsmouth…

A year in the life of a crime writer, Pauline Rowson looks back over 2011

With the New Year almost upon us it's that time of year to take a look back over the events of 2011, and for me it's been a busy and productive year.

Here are some of the highlights of 2011.

January saw the launch of the second Crime Writers’ Association Young Crime Writers Competition 2011. I was the judge of the South Coast entries with the winner going forward for the National prize which was announced during National Crime Writing Week 13 - 19 June. …

Three more appearances in 2010 and then it's looking ahead to 2011

I've got three more appearances and talks to come before the year draws to a close. On 27 November I will be at Waterstones in Portsmouth (UK) between 12 noon and 2pm signing copies of my crime novels or just chatting to readers and anyone else who happens to pass by and is foolish enough to give me eye contact!

Then on 15 December I will be travelling to Broad Chalke in Salisbury to give a talk to the Women’s Institute, which is followed by a trip across the Solent to the Isle of… Continue

Setting deadlines for writing

I'm now over half way through writing the first draft of the next Inspector Andy Horton marine mystery police procedural crime novel, the seventh in the series, as yet untitled, but that doesn't mean I'll have finished the novel by Christmas, although Christmas is my deadline for completing the first draft. Why a deadline? Is this imposed by my publisher? The answer is 'no.' I find setting…

Twinning Portsmouth UK (home of my marine mystery police procedural novels) and USA sounds a good idea to me

My marine mystery crime novels featuring Inspector Andy Horton and my thrillers are set on the south coast of England, in the Solent area with Portsmouth CID being Inspector Andy Horton’s patch. After reading an article in The News, Portsmouth’s local daily newspaper, I was reminded that when I write here I should say Portsmouth, England because there…

All talk, no two states

At his White House press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this week, United States President Barack Obama enthused that the talks about talks will probably lead to talks, and his assessment was that the Israeli government is ready to take part in those talks.

As the camera shutters clicked and the Israeli prime minister cocked his eyebrow in the way he favors when trying to look smarter than everyone else in the room, the most powerful…
