Chance for UK library users to nominate their favourite crime authors for the CWA Dagger in the Library Award 2012

The Crime Writers' Association of Great Britain (CWA) Dagger in the Library, 2012 gives UK readers and librarians the chance to nominate their favourite crime author for this prestigious award.  I was delighted to have reached the long list  in 2008 and would be chuffed if I made it again to either the long list or the short list.

Nominations opened on 1st January 2012 and close on 31st March 2012 so there's time to get your…

Winning

I'm not one of those people who wins stuff. I always buy the obligatory tickets for 50-50 drawings, raffles (which in my area are usually for guns, 4-wheelers, or snowmobiles), and three-night stays at a local gambling/drinking/dancing hotspot, which for a couple as boring as we are isn't an enticement. I never win, so it doesn't matter what the prize is.

What I notice about winning is that winning itself is exciting, no matter what the prize. I spoke to an acquaintance yesterday who… Continue

FRESH FROZEN, Darden North's third novel, receives additional national recognition.

Today is Mother's Day and my children's mother is enjoying her coffee in bed before we get ready to go to church. I took my own mother out to lunch yesterday, and we had a very nice visit. As sort of an early Father's Day present for me, however, my third novel, FRESH FROZEN, has just received two additional national book awards, and I am thankful: Winner, Best Cover Design and Finalist, Regional Fiction in the 2009 National Indie Excellence Awards.

By request, An Excerpt from 'A Study in Red - The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper'

In response to a request from Shawn Michel de Montaigne I'm posting a short extract from my current critically acclaimed novel, 'A Study in Red - The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper'

What follows is the introduction and first chapter of the book. I'll be happy to post a further short extract at a later date, but for now, I hope this may whet a few appetites.

INTRODUCTION

The London of the 1880s differed greatly from the city of today. Poverty and wealth…

Article in 'The Journal of The Whitechapel Society 1888', 'Whodunnit?...I Dunno!"

Soon after the release of my novel 'A Study in Red - The Secret Journal of Jack the Ripper', I was approached by the editor of the Journal of 'The Whitechapel Society 1888' and asked to write an article for their June issue, telling of the genesis of the book. The society, based in London, studies not only the crimes of Jack the Ripper, but the history of Victorian and Edwardian London in general. I felt privileged to be asked to contribute to the journal of this prestigious society, and the… Continue
