Weekly Blog - Monday 10th November

Justice For All attracted another glowing review on line this week, on www.bfkbooks.com. BFK Books (also known as the Book Fiends Kingdom) are a charitable organisation dedicated to raising funds and awareness for the care of adults with autism, a condition that impairs a person’s ability to understand and interpret the world around them. To this end, they publish book reviews and interviews with authors for the public’s reading pleasure, then ask that people make a £2 donation via the ‘Just… Continue

Weekly Blog - Monday 3rd November

Last week, both an interview with yours truly and a review of Justice For All were published on www.sonsofspade.tk. The Sons of Spade website (for the uninitiated, Sam Spade was the lead character in Dashiell Hammett’s ‘The Maltese Falcon’ and is widely recognised as the father of all hard-boiled detectives) is run by a Dutch writer, Jochem Steen, and is a great source of information about what’s fresh in the crime writing genre. I’m pleased to report that the review for Justice For All was… Continue

Weekly Blog - Monday 27th October

Having recovered from a bout of near fatal man flu, I’m back on blog duties once again this week. The interview that I recently did for WriteWords is now up on the site. WriteWords is an on-line source of inspiration and feedback for writers, where you can post sections of your work and invite constructive criticism. Click here to read the full version of the interview. In further publicity related news, my next book signing at the Norwich Branch of ASDA is now just a few days away. The signing… Continue

Weekly Blog - Monday 13th October

First up, there’s been great news on the ASDA front. Following my successful book signing at their Norwich store a couple of weeks ago, I’ve been invited back for a repeat performance! The next signing will occur on Saturday 1st November from 11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., so if you couldn’t make it down last time, feel free to come say hi and snag yourself a signed copy of Justice For All – and don’t forget, Christmas is just round the corner if you’re looking for the ideal gift!

And now… Continue

Weekly Blog - Monday 6th October

First of all, I’d like to offer a big shout out to Jo Nape, one of the DJ’s at Future Radio, who gave Justice For All a few healthy plugs on his Saturday evening show last week. Future Radio is a community radio station based in Norwich that broadcasts on 96.9FM and via its website, www.futureradio.co.uk., and I’d like to thank Jo for his kind support.

On the writing front, I had another great week working on the third novel in the Zac Hunter series, ‘The Beholder,’ knocking out… Continue

Weekly Blog - Monday 29th September

Last week I had the pleasure of attending my first ever book signing event, which occurred at the Norwich branch of ASDA supermarket on Saturday 27th September. Special thanks go to some of the staff at Asda for helping to make this happen: Ron Drewry, for flagging the fact that I was a local author to the branch manager in the first instance, Jo Mackenzie, for making sure that everything ran smoothly on the day, the irrepressible Big Rob, who acted as my ‘hype man’ by drumming up lots of… Continue

Weekly Blog - Monday 22nd September

I’ll keep this week’s blog on the brief side as I’ve got a large turf laying operation on the go in my back garden, plus there’s what promises to be a very exciting finale to the Ryder Cup coming up later today!

Work on ‘The Beholder’ continues apace, as I sailed through the 50,000 word mark at the end of last week. In theory, this puts me at somewhere around the half way point for the first draft, although I’ve got a feeling that this novel may turn out to be slightly longer than my… Continue

Local Fame Beckons?

This week’s blog comes to you a bit earlier than usual, as my talented web maven Chris is off on her hols for a well-earned break, no doubt happy to be free of my daily e-mails asking her for another ‘minor update’ for the site! This also means that the blog is shorter than some of the novellas I’ve been posting recently, as at the time of writing I’m only halfway through the week.

Anyway, to business. Wednesday 10th September saw the publication… Continue

Sightings and Signings

Last week saw the release of the long awaited (by me, at least) October edition of Arena magazine, in which I was featured as one of the six best new thriller writers in the UK today. Each writer got a full page spread in the magazine, comprised of a professional photograph alongside a Q&A. The brief for the Q&A was to be punchy, pithy, and funny, so the pressure was on to come up with some comedy gold.

Prior to the magazine’s release… Continue

Press and Taxes

Last week was all about press and taxes. The press angle came from an interview I had with Keiron Pim, the literary editor of my local newspaper, the Eastern Daily Press (EDP). The interview went very well, with Keiron proving to be a really nice guy, and I got to tell him all about Justice For All, along with my background as a born and bred Norwich lad. An EDP photographer will visit my house next week to take some shots of yours truly to go alongside the… Continue

Justice For All Rocks Up At Reading

Following on from the debut appearance of the Justice For All Road Show at the V Festival (for those of you wondering what I’m talking about, check out last week’s blog), we hit the big leagues over the bank holiday weekend when we rocked up at Reading. The Reading Festival is my favourite three days of the year, and while this was the thirteenth time I’ve attended, it had extra resonance this year as it was my first time there as a… Continue

Justice For All Takes To The Road

As weeks go, the last seven days have been pretty special for me, as Friday saw the release of Justice For All (JFA) in the UK and Eire. Ever since I was a kid, I always dreamed of being an author, so to finally see my debut novel hit the shelves was an experience I can’t even begin to put into words (which is probably something an author shouldn’t admit to!) It’s now on sale in Asda (where it’s number 26 in their chart), Borders, Waterstones,… Continue

A Face for the Radio

Last week I recorded my first ever interview for Manx Radio (who serve the Isle of Mann) to help publicise Justice For All. Their DJ, Bob Harrison, dialled through on Tuesday lunchtime, and after a brief ‘getting to know you’ chat, he hit the big red button on his mixing desk to start recording (I don’t actually know if it was a big red button, but I’ve always wanted to mention one in dispatches) and we were off. The interview lasted for ten minutes or so… Continue

Weekly Blog - Monday 4th August

Last week brought some exciting news, as I discovered that Justice For All has been selected as a recommended summer read by the Daily Mirror newspaper, which has a circulation of around 1.5 million readers a day! My novel, which featured alongside the latest offerings from big-league authors Simon Kernick and Jeff Abbott, was described as ‘a debut of the highest order’, and was deemed ‘uncompromising from start to finish.’ As you can imagine, I was chuffed to bits. Pre-launch publicity doesn’t… Continue

Harrogate And Other Stories…

This week’s special edition blog comes to you from the departure lounge of Barcelona airport. I’ve spent the last few days in the city with Lisa to celebrate her 40th birthday. It’s a fantastic place packed with the architectural wonders of that ‘modernista’ genius Antoni Gaudi, the tapas is varied and tasty, and the sangria slips down nicely on a hot sunny day. But enough of my European adventures, instead, let me turn my attention to the week before last,… Continue

Weekly Blog - Monday 14th July

I spent most of last week working on the third novel in the Zac Hunter series, provisionally entitled ‘The Beholder.’ On Monday, the planets moved into alignment and the writing came easy, and by the end of the day I’d added almost 2,000 words to the novel. Sadly, this was not how the rest of the week panned out. Trying to be creative on Tuesday through Friday was like wading through thick mud. When this sort of thing happens (and believe me it does, usually for no apparent reason) all you can… Continue

Weekly Blog - Monday 7th July

Last week was an exciting one, as it heralded my first photo shoot for a national magazine as part of the pre-launch publicity for the release of my debut novel ‘Justice For All.’ The magazine in question was Arena, and the photos and forthcoming interview will form part of a feature they’re running on young thriller writers. Six writers were covered in total, and I’ve been told that each of us will get a full page to ourselves in the magazine, so that’s pretty cool! The feature will be… Continue

Weekly Blog - Monday 30th June

Since I last posed my blog, I’ve had a week away on ‘dog hols’ with my wife, Lisa, and our faithful canine companion, Murphy, plus our good friends Andy and Michelle (who also answer to Broadside Bob and Mrs Bip, but we won’t go into that now). The four of us go away for a week once a year in the UK, finding a dog-friendly cottage so that Murphy can come too, which has the added benefit of allowing us to visit parts of our fair and sunny isle that we haven’t been to before. This time, we… Continue
