December news

It's been a busy month and not just because of Christmas! Here's what's been going on in my world:

1. My daughter celebrated her 2nd birthday - very exciting!

2. I've been looking for a new venue for the annual book launch hubby and I host for our family and friends. I've finally found the venue but now I'm organising invitations. It's hard to believe it's only 6 weeks until book 4, The Killing Hands, comes out in Australia and New Zealand.

3. I'm getting my website… Continue

My US trip

I've been back from the States for just over two weeks now, but it's taken me a while to catch up on the day-to-day stuff! So, the trip...

Bouchercon in Baltimore

I had a great time at this international mystery convention - so good I hope to get back in 2010, when it's being held in San Francisco. Both of my panels went well and I met some great people - authors and readers alike.

New York

After Bouchercon came… Continue

First round edits - done!

Just emailed the edited manuscript for my fourth Sophie novel, The Killing Hands, off to my Aussie publisher. Hooray!

I'm really happy with how the book's going and hope my readers will be too! So, here's some more plot info without spoilers:

Set in LA

Features organised crime (Yakuza) and LA gangs

Features more Kung Fu

More of Sophie - e.g. you'll get to 'meet' her parents!

But I really should stop now before I say too much.

Crime and Justice Festival, Melbourne

Hi there,

On Sunday 20 July I'll be appearing on two panels as part of the Crime and Justice Festival in Melbourne.

12 noon - Matters of Procedure

The procedural crime novel is one of the longest-standing – and most successful – crime genre formats around. Even Voltaire's Zadig written in even earlier 1748 features a main character who performs feats of analysis and which could, at a push, be considered the earliest example of detective fiction. Looking at matters… Continue

The fourth book is called The Killing Hands. But it's still a while until publication. It will be released in Australia & New Zealand first, February 2009. Other release dates for all my books are below:

80,000 words in and I finally know whodunit!

I guess most people presume that an author is in complete control of their work – their words and their characters. So perhaps it comes as a surprise to you that I’ve only just worked out/decided whodunit it for book 4 in the Sophie Anderson series. Scary, but true.

My mum came to baby-sit last Friday (as she does every Friday) and I confided in her: ‘I’m getting kinda worried, mum, because I’m 80,000 words in and I still don’t know whodunit.’ She gave me a look…the ‘you gotta be… Continue
