Signed ARCs for Caretaker

Last night at my reading at the Mysterious Bookshop in Manhattan, my Overlook Press publicist dropped off a stack of ARCs for 'The Caretaker of Lorne Field' at the bookstore, which I signed.Caretaker isn't out until July, but you can get a signed ARC for it now. Mysterious Bookshop will be giving out the ARCS they have with each purchase of a signed copy of Pariah. Not a bad deal.

Pariah in review

Pariah was the second in my 'man out of prison' noir series published by Serpent's Tail. The first in the series, Small Crimes, got rave reviews from a number of London and US papers, and ended up being named by NPR as one of the top 5 crime and mystery novels of 2008, as well as one of the best books of the year by the Washington Post. Pariah has so far gotten similar acclaim with the Washington Post naming it one of the best books of 2009,… Continue

Pariah reviewed by Maureen Corrigan in the Washington Post

"I didn't think a suspense story could get any more dark and twisted than Zeltserman's pulp masterpiece of last year, "Small Crimes." In that nasty little immorality tale, a crooked ex-cop bent on redemption gets released from prison and finds out that nobody -- not his ex-wife, not his young daughters, not even his elderly parents -- wants him back. The kicker is that they're right. By the end of "Small Crimes," I was wrung out thanks to the… Continue

10 quick reasons why you might want to read Pariah

1) "Pariah is all I know of bliss and lament. Bliss at reading a superb novel and lament at knowing that Dave Zeltserman has now raised the bar so high, we're screwed." Ken Bruen

2) "It's the kind of book that is going to spoil whatever I read next, as it's going to be found wanting compared to this. This is a book that anyone with even the slightest interest in the crime or thriller genres simply must get their hands on, as it's bound to have a huge impact on you." Bookbag… Continue

Maureen Corrigan's Top Summer Reads

Maureen Corrigan, book reviewer for Fresh Air, earlier this summer provided the following list to ProgressiveBookClub.com for her top summer reads:

The Way Home by George Pelecanos

If you don’t know of him, Pelecanos has been writing crime novels for years about the “other” Washington (i.e., not Capitol Hill or Northwest DC) He’s socially and racially conscious and a terrific writer. Also wrote for The Wire. The working class “hero” of this novel works for his family’s… Continue

Pariah

To describe mobster Kyle Nevin as a nasty piece of work is something of an understatement.

At the beginning of Dave Zeltserman 's white-knuckle ride of a second novel, Nevin is just out of jail after serving eight years for armed robbery and keeping his mouth shut.

Now he wants revenge, and… Continue

Small Crimes in South Africa

This weekend Small Crimes received its second review from a South African newspaper--the first one was a good review from The Citizen. This one was from the Weekender section of Business Day, and what made this very cool--other than being reviewed in another country and continent--was that Small Crimes was reviewed with two Richard Stark books. Anyway, here's Business Day's review for Small Crimes:

Noir fiction from the villains' perspective

Pariah now out in the UK

Pariah, my second "man just out of prison" novel being published by Serpent's Tail is now out in the UK, and all of the very early comments and reviews have just been great, from Ed Gorman, Ken Bruen, Crime Scene Scotland, and others, the reaction to this book is better than I could've hoped for. And now the latest review from The Bookbag:

"It's the kind of book that is going to spoil whatever I read next, as it's going to be found… Continue
