Luck is with Me

Hi everyone. Just wanted you to know that at the last minute the warehouse DID ship copies of Blood and Bone to the Books-A-Million in Alexandria. So I'll be signing the book there today starting at 2 pm. Visit me there at 503 King St, Alexandria, VA., and pick up your autographed copy.

Can't get to Alexandria? Then visit my web site - www.ascamacho.com - to order your copy direct from the publisher and enter my contest.

Greetings! And Meeting

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

May your stuffing be tasty

May your turkey plump,

May your potatoes and gravy

Have never a lump.

May your yams be delicious

And your pies take the prize,

And may your Thanksgiving dinner

Stay off your thighs!

Now, if I can waddle out of the house tomorrow I’ll head to the Borders Express in Dulles Town Center Mall to celebrate Black Friday with a couple other crime writers. We’ll do a team book signing from… Continue

Thanksgiving message

When you look at the economy these days you might wonder just what we all have to be thankful for this year. Let me remind you that others have had it far worse. Remember, the Pilgrims made seven times more graves than huts. In fact, no Americans have been more impoverished than these who, nevertheless, set aside a day of thanksgiving.

I'm particularly fond of this quote from H.U. Westermayer who said that if the only prayer you said in your whole life was, "thank you," that would…

Another Great Review

I often like to share reader comments on my main web site. In this case I’d like to introduce you to Chuck Hagar.

I met Chuck during my last visit to Borders Express at the Dulles Expo Center. He picked up a copy of Blood and Bone that day, and later wrote to me about it. Despite pointing out a factual inaccuracy in the book he flattered me by saying that the story held his attention so well that he missed his bus stop reading… Continue

Author update and HOLIDAY CONTEST

My weekend was a bit more varied than usual. I had mid-afternoon fun at the Borders Express in Springfield Mall. The Friday 3 pm to 7 pm slot was an experiment that paid off well. Saturday was an evening gig at the Books-A-Million in Greenbelt, MD. Again, 4pm to 8 pm isn’t my usual time but it allowed me to meet some new people. Sunday I greeted the after church crowd at Borders in Waldorf MD. From noon to 4 pm was the right time to be there, too, and lots of novels went out the… Continue

Another Cool Review

I often like to share comments people send me about my novels. In this case I'd like to introduce you to Jerry Sluger.

I met Jerry at a signing at Borders in Silver Spring, MD. After a short conversation he took home both of the Stark and O'Brien adventures. This week he was kind enough to e-mail me to let me know that he read both books and enjoyed them. I appreciated his comments so much that I used them for the featured review on my web… Continue

Santa Smiles

Last weekend's Christmas market had its share of grumpy shoppers, most of them men who were dragged along. One could get to thinking that Christmas is a women's holiday. I mentioned to one fellow that the only grown man who really seems to enjoy the season is Santa Claus.

"Maybe," the guy said. "But do you know why Santa is so jolly? It's because he knows where all the bad girls live."

The latest News

I spent the weekend at the 15th Annual Northern Virginia Christmas Market, which was both a fun and a profitable time. Aside from signing lots of books I got to chat with dozens of mystery lovers and got exposure to hundreds of potential future readers. I even chatted with one lady who asked if my books were available on Amazon's Kindle. When I told her yes she pulled the device out and checked for them right there in front of me. How cool is that? And as a bonus, my lovely wife Denise joined… Continue

Remember Veteran's Day

Cynthia Ozick said that we often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude. I hope that on Tuesday all of you remember our service members, certainly people who most deserve our gratitude. To quote poet Maya Angelou, "How important it is for us to recognize and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!"

GREAT Crime Fiction I didn't write

Admin OptionsEdit Post Add Tags

Delete Post Manage Blog Sometimes in the rush to share newly-discovered authors I forget to even mention some old favorites. For example, I’ve been a fan of Max Allen Collins for a lot of years. In the 21st century, Collins practically defines hard boiled crime fiction. Before he wrote Road to Perdition, before was collaborating with Mickey Spillane, before he was raising the level of comic book writing on Batman, he was reinventing Dick Tracy after… Continue

Author's Update

It was a weekend of surprises, most of them good. Friday I signed lots of books at the Borders in the Baltimore Washington International Airport. I also met a woman who said her book club would love to have an author visit them. Saturday I signed a few more books at the Waldenbooks in Landmark Mall. I also met a man who wants me to speak to the men’s group at his church. So both those events will pay unexpected dividends.

But due to a clerical error on the part of a store manager I… Continue

THE site for Thrillers

The line between mysteries and thrillers is a thin one, and definitions can get muddy. If you happen to enjoy a great thriller, the best place to find new great reads is the web site run by the International Thriller Writers. Their electronic newsletter, The Big Thrill, is posted on line and presents reviews of all the new thrillers released each month. Those reviews are written by thriller authors like me, and we know what to look for in a good book. This month alone there are 32 reviews,… Continue
