THE JUDGES: VICTOR GISCHLER AND ANTHONY NEIL SMITH

Anthony Neil Smith knows his shit as co-founder and chief editor of the infamous ezine PLOTS WITH GUNS. He also teaches English at Southwest Minnesota State University and is the author of the brutal, critically acclaimed crime novels PSYCHOSOMATIC, THE DRUMMER, and his most recent, YELLOW MEDICINE.

Victor Gischler
is the author of four hardboiled crime novels. His debut novel GUN MONKEYS was nominated for the Edgar Award, and his novel SHOTGUN OPERA was an Anthony Award finalist. His work has been translated into Italian, French, Spanish and Japanese. He earned a Ph.D. in English at the University of Southern Mississippi where they beat him with rolled up newspapers and fed him raw liver. His Fifth novel GO-GO GIRLS OF THE APOCALYPSE was recently accepted by the Touchstone/Fireside imprint of Simon & Schuster.



THE SPECIFICS


All stories submitted that fall between 1000 and 5500 words by a writer who is classifiable as an "up-and-comer" will be automatically entered in our short fiction contest. Two first, second and third place winners will be selected--one set for our "APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTE READ DEPT." and one set for our "15-20 MINUTE READ DEPT." By "up and comer" we mean writers with a relatively humble resume ... writers who have not yet "arrived" and have everything to prove and to whom it will mean something to win this thing.



THE PAYOFF

The winner of our 15-20 MINUTE REVENGE CONTEST (revenge stories between 3000 and 5500 words) will receive $60 American, a contributor's copy and an OUT OF THE GUTTER T-shirt featuring our bloody typewriter logo.

The winner of our APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTE REVENGE CONTEST (revenge stories between 1000 and 3000 words) will receive $40 American, a contributors' copy and an OUT OF THE GUTTER T-shirt featuring our bloody typewriter logo.

Second place winners get $0 American, a contributor's copy and an OUT OF THE GUTTER T-shirt featuring our bloody typewriter logo.

Third place winners get a hard slap on the back, prominent billing and a contributor's copy.
