New news!
My kind and excellent friends from Criminal Brief, the short story webblog, have invited me to serve on their short story panel on Friday in Baltimore! Linda Landrigan, editor-in-chief of Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine will also sit in, plus illustrious others. Do not miss this panel!!
Why so much passion for short story? Because every word works hard to please the reader, no fluff, no dead-zones. Still not convinced? Movies are cinematic short stories. Ask anyone who ever had to cut apart and condense a novel to adapt it to film, plus check out the multitude of movies made directly from short stories. You'll be surprised how many there are, and which lustrous names you find.
Still not sure? Talk to Stuart M. Kaminsky--MWA Grandmaster, award winning prolific author, screenwriter, television writer, Department Head and Professor of Television and Film at Northwestern University and later a university in Florida...plus other credits. His industry-wide respected opinions carry the weight of his various successful careers. He should know.
As to Criminal Brief: If you haven't gone to their website yet, please indulge. A priceless collection of short humor, musings, discussions, rambles, and so much more--all tastes satisfied, I promise you. Founder James Lincoln Warren's name will be familiar to fans, as will the names of those contributing regularly and to the frequent 'Master Class' essays. Don't miss!
See you in Laura Lippman's town!
