This won't be a blog I'll write much in, I guess, because I already have The Idle Writer to work on. It's as though I only have so many bloggish words in me during any given month, so I have to parcel them out piecemeal.

Just to do a bit of positioning, as marketing folk like to say ... I've published one PI novel already (Altered Life), and the second one is just being finished off - before it finishes me off. They're both about a Private Investigator based in the north west of England, in the Liverpool/Manchester area. My intention with these books is to capture some of the noir elements of my favourite US writers and put them in an English setting - a stylistic challenge of epic proportions, given the difference in glamour levels between, say, Los Angeles and the suburbs of Manchester. My problem is that I find almost all UK crime fiction to be parochial and mundane, probably because I live here and I know the banality of most suburban lives!

Anyway, it's good to be here on a US crime writing/reading site, and I hope to meet some like-minded souls.

Oh, and a big shout-out to Daniel for having put this site together. Let's hope it grows huge!
