That's a disturbing story. The book will read the same in three days as on Christmas; it's not a kidney.

Nope, that man is mad.

Strangely I had a somewhat similar experience. A fan e-mailed and mentioned in passing that one of the books was flawed. I e-mailed my editor, who wanted the fan's address so Penguin could replace the book. When I got back to the fan, he declined the offer. He had found the book in a used book store and it was an ARC (advance -- not for sale -- copy). An honest man.
