B&N to release competition for Amazon's Kindle with its "Nook" e-reader

http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2009/10/barnes-nobles-kindle-killing...

Same price, sharing with others, color touchscreen, supports open formats such as EPUB, 2GB storage, wifi, b&w e-ink screen, discounted prices for ebooks (finally!)...the Kindle is in trouble.

And what about the endless wave of "nookie" jokes that will surely come if this catches on?

"I did it all for nookie."

"I can't come to the phone, I'm busy with my nookie."

"It burns now that I got nookie."

(It's been a long day)

Frankly, I'm with Jon. That name is really a mistake. How will people engage in conversations about their Christmas presents?

There's quite a few coming out and being updated next year.

There's also an e-reader by Asus that will have dual, hinged screens, in full color.

The name's kind of funny, though--the Nook-e-reader. Huhuh...

Looks a lot better too!

Sounds much better than the Kindle, in theory, anyway.

Lots of new e-readers coming out around now. And then there's Google Edition next year.

It feels like next year will be the first true eReader year. I'm sure it'll be a few more until the dust settles.
